Male 70+ 500m TT Roland Crayford of Great Britain took the first Gold of the week when he edged out Irelands Richard Keller with 39.842 to Kellers 40.563. It was Crayfords first year in the 70+ category after placing fourth in the last World Masters at Manchester. Derek Thurrell of Great Britain took the Bronze GOLD Roland Crayford Great Britain SILVER Richard Keller Ireland BRONZE Derek Thurrell Great Britain Male 65-69 500m TT Great Britains Peter Smith stormed to victory in the 65-69 time trial, moving up from his Bronze 2 years ago. Smiths 39.454 just edged out fellow Brit Barrie Hartley with 39.651, with Dane Peter Tranberg taking the Bronze with 41.307 Peter Smith GOLD Great Britain Barrie Hartley SILVER Great Britain Peter Tranberg BRONZE Denmark Male 60-64 500m TT 2007 World Master Silver medalist Geoff Cooke took his first win of the week with 36.796, a mere 6 hundredths slower than his winning time last year. Graziano Pantosti took the first Italian medal of the week with 38.443, moving up from 4th last year and 10th 2 years ago with Ian Bell taking his first Masters medal with 39.567. GOLD Geoffrey Cooke Great Britain SILVER Graziano Pantosti Italian BRONZE Ian Bell Great Britain Male 55-59 500m TT Gerard Louis Robert, riding for France shaved the World Best time to within 7 hundredths of a seconds to push fellow countryman and 2007 Worlds Gold Medalist Marc Dangleterre into second. Roberts time would have won him the Gold in last years Worlds in Australia and also the 2006 event in Manchester when he placed third. The Bronze on this occassion was taken by Steve Davies of Great Britain. GOLD Gerard Louis Robert France SILVER Marc Dangleterre France BRONZE Steve Davies Great Britain Male 50-54 500m TT Dave 'Legro' LeGrys, the current World Master added the first European title to his palmares when lead Great Britain to a clean sweep of the medals, beating Steve Cronshaw, fourth last year, into second in front of Mark Zaschke. Legrys' 34.464 was actually faster than his 34.866 in 2006 GOLD Dave LeGrys Great Britain SILVER Steve Cronshaw Great Britain BRONZE Mark Zaschke Great Britain Male 45-49 500m TT Philippe Vernet won France's second Gold of the opening day when he beat Ivor Reid into the Silver position with 50.676 to the Scots 51.256. Reid and Vernet have had a few battles over the years and Reid took the Bronze in last years Worlds as Vernet again claimed Gold. In 2006 in was the other way round as Reid took the Silver home to Scotland while Vernet who did not get the best of starts, could only manage 6th. GOLD Philippe Vernet France SILVER Ivor Reid Great Britain BRONZE Martin Stephens Great Britain Male 40-44 750m TT Ahcen Aggar made it a Golden day for France with their third of this opening day. Aggar beat Germany's Dirk Engler by half a second with his 51.349. Engler's margin over third placed John Saysell of Great Britain though was even smaller, - 8 hundredths of a second! Ben Elliott the 2006 World Master, had to settle for silver, even though his 1.05.948 was .00309 faster than his time 2 years ago. While Dacey and Crayford both comfortably won their semis in two straight heats, the final went to three rides with Dacey winning the first. Bronze medalist Richard Keller of Ireland had to come back through the 2nd Round Repechage to make the semis where he met Derek Thurell who he beat in two straight rides to claim the Bronze. GOLD Brian Dacey Great Britain SILVER Roland Crayford Great Britain BRONZE Richard Keller Ireland Mens Sprint 65-69 Day one winner Guido Lupo again showed his class when he took the Gold to beat Peter Tranberg in the final of the Mens 65-69 Sprint. Qualifying fastest, Lupo cruised through to the finals where he beat Tranberg in two straight rides.

The Bronze went to GB's Geoff Brandt who beat fellow Brit Sandy Wallace into fourth. Fabio Alberti of Italy who met Aggar in the Semis took the Bronze, riding against Great Britains John Saysell 13.120 and 11.479 GOLD Achen Aggar France SILVER Dirk Engler Germany BRONZE Fabio Alberti Italy Womens Time Trial 40-49 Narrowly missing her own World Best set in the 2006 Championships by less than 2 hundredths of a second, Janet Birkmyre as last rider off went straight to the top of the leader board with her nearest challenger Debbie Capewell who took Silver almost 3 seconds adrift. The battle for Capewell was closer with Italian Patrizia Spadaccini only.201 slower than Capewell. The first 3 fastest in qualifying took the medals in the correct order except for Great Britains Andrew Tranter is was not as straight forward. While Lee Povey and Gywn Carless made their way to the finals without incident where Pover beat Carless 12.576 and 12.604, Tranter was beaten by France's Jean Paul Benvenuto in the second round and had to come back through the repechage. He was then relegated into second in the first ride against Povey after he entered the sprinters line after Povey was already there. Povey won the next ride and Tranter had to settle for Bronze against Jean Paul Benvenuto which went to 3 rides. Povey beat Carless in two, 12.576 and 11.727. GOLD Lee Povey Great Britain SILVER Gwyn Carless Great Britain BRONZE Andrew Tranter Great Britain Mens Points 40–44 Philip Hetzel won a race long battle with Alistair Wood to take the European title in the 20km event 36pts to Woods 23. Wood was leading up till the lap 50 sprint after which Hetzel went away to gain a lap, leaving Gian Franco Muscheri of Italy to take the second placed points ahead of Wood and Giuseppe Ravasio of Italy who was also in the mix. Hetzels' 20 points for the lap moved him into first from second. Woods only chance to reclaim first was to win both sprints at 10 to go and the final. In the end Ravasio beat him to the first and by the finish he accepted his defeat. Ettles led by 16 to 15 after the fifth sprint after 50 laps when Marriner, on a single point at the time, took a flyer to take the five of offer for the 6th sprint, then went onto take a lap, putting him on 26pts. Claus Christiansen of Denmark who at the time was on 8 points then took the single point on offer for fith on the 50 lap sprint but then won the last two to push Ettles into fourth and out of the medals. GOLD John Marriner Great Britain SILVER Sylvain Abadie France BRONZE Claus Christiansen Denmark Mens Pursuit 50–54 Graham Barclay, who won the World Bronze in the Mens 45-49 age group in 2005 made it Gold this time when he relegated Maas Van Beek into Silver by a narrow margin, 2.25.212 to Van Beek's 2.25.604.
