GENERAL DESCRIPTION EWTS 990 is a microprocessor based electronic programmable timer. The definition of 9 operation modes is achieved through a range of alpha-numeric parameters that can be set by an easy intuitive access-protected procedure. Such programming permits to define the type of function, the time scale, the count type (up or down), the reset key operation mode and the buzzer operation at the end of the count phase. The instrument is provided with two relay outputs and two inputs (by external contacts without voltage) for “hold” (count stop) and “reset” (count zeroing), both designed for remote control purposes. A series of leds shows outputs enabling and the measurement unit for the displayed value. EWTS 990 is available in the 32x74 mm Eliwell standard format. COMMANDS ON FRONT PANEL PRG/MUTE: when pressed and released label “SET1” is displayed and on a further pressure label “SET2” if required. In the “24H” operation mode label “CLOCK” is displayed; on further pressures of the key the display shows labels “ON_1”, “OFF1, “ON_2, “OFF2”. When hold pressed for more than 4 seconds the user accesses label “PASS” (parameters access password) or the list of parameters if the password is not enabled. In parameters programming mode it permits to skip to the following parameters. When pressed while the buzzer is sounding for an alarm, it silences it. SET/RST: when pressed and released the timer count restarts, if the parameters programming permits it. In the password input, Set change or time setting phases, it enables changes in any display digit through keys UP and DOWN. In parameters programming it permits to display the parameter value.
UP: when pressed the value of SET1 is temporarily displayed. When hold pressed in the “24H” operation mode the “ON_1” and “OFF1” times are displayed alternatively. In the password input, Set change or parameters programming phases, it increases the value of the selected digit or permits to change the value of the selected parameter. DOWN: when pressed the SET2 value is temporarily displayed. When hold pressed in the “24H” operation mode the “ON_2” and “OFF2” times are displayed alternatively. In the password input, Set change or in parameters programming phases, it decreases the value of the selected digit or permits to change the value of the selected parameter. Led “1” and “2”: on when outputs “OP1” and “OP2” are on, respectively. Led “H”, “M” and “S”: on when a count in “hours”, minutes” or “seconds” is displayed, respectively. SETTING THE SETPOINT To set the Setpoint value press and release key PRG/MUTE. Label “SET1” will be displayed; by pressing and releasing key SET/RST it is possible to change the value of setpoint 1. In this situation the most significant digit is blinking – use the up and down keys to modify the value of the blinking digit, then press SET/RST and perform the same operations for the other digits. The process is the same to modify any other numeric value. Pressing and releasing key PRG/MUTE again will display label “SET2”, when possible; pressing and releasing key SET/RST it is possible to change the value of setpoint 2. Pressing and releasing key PRG/MUTE returns to count display mode.
The standard value for both Setpoints is 9000. SETTING TIME AND INTERVENTION TIMES In the “24H” operation mode, press and release key PRG/MUTE to set the time. Label “CLOC” will appear; by pressing and releasing key SET/RST it is possible to modify the time value. By holding key PRG/MUTE pressed and then releasing it labels “ON_1” (activation time for output OP1), “OFF1” (de-activation time for output OP1), “ON_2 (activation time of output OP2), “OFF2” (de-activation time of output OP2) are displayed; by pressing and releasing key SET/RST it is possible to modify the intervention times. Pressing key PRG/MUTE returns to count display. On every power failure the time is zeroed and restarted from 00 hours and 00 minutes. ZEROING AND STOPPING THE COUNT Pressing and releasing key SET/RST restarts the timer count, if parameters programming permits it. Zeroing the count can also be performed by closing the RESET external input. In this case the count will restart from the starting condition only when the RESET contact is opened. In case of alarm signalled by the buzzer sound, pressing PRG/MUTE silences it, without zeroing the count. The count is blocked by closing the HOLD external input. In this case the count will restart from the condition it stopped only when the HOLD contact is opened. PARAMETERS PROGRAMMING Programming mode is entered by holding key “PRG” pressed for more than 5 seconds. Usually the password is not active, as the “PASS” value is set to “0000”. If a value different than “0000” is programmed, the display shows label “PASS”. Type the password to enter parameters programming. Value “0000” is displayed when pressing key “SET/RST” and the password can be typed. Once the required value has been set, press key “PRG” to enter the parameters list if the password value is correct. If the typed password is not correct the system returns to count display. By typing value “1996” access to the parameters list is permitted anyway. Once the label of a parameter is displayed press key “PRG” to skip to the following parameter; press “SET/RST” to display the parameter’s value and use keys UP/DOWN to modify it. Once the last parameter – “PASS” – is reached by pressing key “PRG” the display shows message “End”; now connect and disconnect power supply to the instrument

to restart the timer. During parameters programming all outputs are disabled and counts zeroed. DESCRIPTION OF PARAMETERS The parameters list reported hereunder is complete, only parameters involved will be visible according to the selected operation mode. MODE: output operation mode selection. Permits to select the timer operation on the two outputs according to the modes described hereunder. Output pickup or delay count start as the instrument is turned on or when the RESET digital input is closed (save in the case of mode “dd_2” where the delay is only related to the closing of RESET input). • dE_1 = OP1 output delayed on pickup (of SET1 value), output OP2 active without delay; • ddE = OP1 output delayed on pickup (of SET1 value), output OP2 depending on OP1 and delayed (by value at SET1+SET2); • dP_1 = output OP1 is one-shot for the pickup time (for the time set at SET2) and
delayed at startup (of value at SET1), output OP2 active without delay; • cct = output OP1 is free-running with OFF time (of value at SET1) and ON time (of value at SET2); output is off at start. Output OP2 active without delay; • dE_2 = output OP1 delayed at pickup (of value at SET1), output OP2 delayed at pickup (of value at SET2) The time set on SET1 shall be greater than the value programmed on SET2; • It_2 = OP1 is one-shot for the ON time (of value at SET1), output OP2 is one-shot for the ON time (of value at SET2). The time set on SET1 shall be greater than the value programmed on SET2; • dEIt = output OP1 delayed at pickup (of value at SET1), output OP2 is one-shot for the ON time (of value at SET2) The time set on SET1 shall be greater than the value programmed on SET2; • dd_2 = output OP1 delayed at stop (of value at SET1), output OP2 delayed at stop (of value at SET2). The delay refers to the closing of the reset input. The time set on SET1 shall be greater than the value programmed on SET2;

per terminal). EWTS 990 is provided with two voltagefree relay outputs. Output OP1 features an exchange contact, while output OP2 provides a normally open contact. Do not exceed the maximum contact capacity: 8(3)A 250V AC regarding output OP1, 5(2)A 250V AC for output OP2. In case of heavier loads use a suitable power contactor. Check the power supply voltage complies with the value required by the instrument: 12 or 24 Vac/cc ±10% (very low safety voltage). Cables for digital inputs and power supply shall be kept far from relay cables both for EMC and safety reasons. The European coordinated regulations require that relay contact wires (and generally speaking all parts subject to dangerous voltage) shall be separate from very low safety voltage sections (digital inputs, power supply) through insulation and distances to ensure at least a double or reinforced insulation. EMC requirements for correct operation suggest / impose to take more care in such separation by using separated insulating raceways and special cable fixing fittings.
