II. Virus Protection The embedded antivirus utility provides several options for virus protection, including real-time, manual and scheduled scanning to offer comprehensive antivirus and content security solutions for enterprise customers. Note: For the first-time operation, please go to the Virus Scan*Update page to obtain the most updated virus pattern file, otherwise the antivirus function will not be activated, as the screenshot below shows:
III. Information The below information screen is the summary of the current antivirus settings. It gives you a comprehensive overview of the current status of the antivirus general settings, real-time scan history and scan task summary of your NAS server. The general settings displays the present conditions of the antivirus status:

Real-time Scan - The display of 'real-time scanning' is either disabled or enabled Virus Scan Schedule - The display of 'scheduled virus scanning' is either disabled or enabled Virus Scan Status - Display' virus scanning' is either idle or scanning. Pattern Update Schedule - Displays the status and schedule for the next virus pattern file update Last Successful Update - Displays the date/time of the last successful virus pattern file update Scan Engine Version - Displays the current scan engine version Virus Pattern Version - Displays the current virus pattern file version Quarantine Folder - Displays the folder name and path where virus infected files are located and in quarantine 3
The real- time scan history displays the date and time when the virus was found, the virus name, the action taken and the full path name of the infected file. The 'scan task summary' displays the start time of each manual or scheduled scan task.
1. Real-time scan
The real- time scanning function provides antivirus protection while users are reading or writing files onto the NAS server. Check the “Enable ” check-box to activate the real-time scanning function, then specify the scan direction. By scanning incoming files you scan those being written onto the NAS server. By scanning outgoing files you scan those being opened or read from the NAS server.

2. Manual and scheduled scan The manual and scheduled scanning function scans any folders for infected files. A. Manual scan setting.

The scan results will be listed as a scan task summary on the 'Information' page. To scan for any virus, please first choose the folders to be scanned, then specify the schedule and click 'Apply'.

3. Scan settings
The scan settings apply for real-time, manual and scheduled scan tasks. •
File types to scan - you can limit the scanning to specific file types.
You can specify your own file extensions to scan. Please note that the recommended file types might be different for different versions of virus pattern files.
Action when a virus is found - specify whether to quarantine, clean or delete the infected files.

4. Updating virus patterns Virus pattern updates can be performed either manually or according to a schedule. It is required to perform a manual update immediately when the antivirus function is activated for the first time.
When updating virus pattern file.
To update the virus pattern file from the Trend Micro update server, the NAS server must have an Internet connection. Moreover, a DNS server must be specified on the Network* TCP/IP page.
If the NAS server cannot connect onto the Internet or is behind a firewall, you must first upload the virus pattern file manually. You can download the most up-to-update virus pattern from Trend Micro's website http://www.trendmicro.com. Please make sure that the virus pattern file is zipped before uploading onto the NAS server.
