One of the things that brings people back to Rockford year in and year out is that you never know what's going to turn up in the way of different and unusual aircraft and design features. John Van Andel of New York helped provide the unusual for the 1967 Convention in the form of his Nicholas-Beazley monoplane of the early 1930s. control force needed. In picture No. 3 the aileron is up, and as the paddle is now ahead of the hinge line and riding at a negative angle of attack, it tends to push down and raise the aileron more. The aileron on the opposite wing has the same thing on it. It amounts to an elementary form of the servo tabs that used to be common on large airplanes to lighten control forces. ®
