ANIMALITER Artists Workshop

Purpose of the workshop Context: -considering the success and importance of the Animaliter workshop held in the summer of 2008 at Bata (Arad, Romania), The Arad County Library is inviting you to participate in 2010 at the second edition of the workshop -the workshop has the purpose to discover artists with abilities for book illustration -it addresses to students from the early years of superior artistic education (between 18 and 22 years old) -the workshop will be led by one professional artist -as a starting point, the creative activity of the workshop will have folk literature connected with the theme of talking animals (animals with human behaviour) -folk stories (fairy tales) will be illustrated by all participants according to their own vision, using traditional media -material at the disposal of the participants: paper, drawing pencils, colored pencils, drawing charcoal, ink, pens, water based colors, brushes -techniques: drawing, painting, mixed techniques

Dates and duration of the workshop From the 24th of August to the 2nd of September 2010 (10 days)

Accommodation: -youth pension

Place: -rural place (Bata village, 65 km from Arad)

Place where the workshop is going to take place: - youth pension - the village school - outdoors

Criteria of selection of the applicants - we are welcoming applicants from all previous participating countries to the Animaliter project

-the participants have to be art students -age required: between 18 and 22 years old Language skills required: English or/and French Professional or educational situation: student

Content of the application's file - a CV of each of the proposed students is necessary

Deadline -we need to receive the application’s files before May 15th 2010

Production -each participant has to create at least 10 book illustrations -the artworks produced during the workshop will remain in the property of Arad County Library - we will also reserve the right to publish the illustrations in any promotional materials and also to publish them in a fiction book containing the selected stories. You will be credited every time one or several illustrations will be used. -there will be organized an exhibition and published an illustrated book

Public – target group -first of all, the ten young artists -the group leaders -the people from Arad that will visit the exhibition -the experience will continue both through the returning of the artists in there own countries and through the distribution of the published book in the cities of the participants Organization The structures which organize the workshop and host the artists are: - Arad County Library Working language: - English and French Number of artists: - ten students Leading role: -the workshop will be led by a professional artist with pedagogical and book illustration experience
