Located in downtown Bourges (France), Art-Tension is a two-story contemporary art gallery which

has been welcoming international artists since 2004. Ms Chen and her husband Jang-Ha have managed this gallery while continuing their own artistic activity in France and abroad for several years. Young artists from Asia and from the West show their achievements and exchange their views on today’s art. Single artist exhibits or group exhibits are selected by the art board or on proposal of commission members’ projects. Portfolio submissions sent directly by artists are welcomed. Yearly programming is decided upon strict criteria, while frequency of exhibits is kept on a one-per-month basis, ranging from Painting, Video, Installation, Sculpture to Photography, and so on.

Jang-Hua Chen has been living in France for ten years. He runs the ART-TENSION Gallery in

Bourges and is the secretary of the ECART association whose goal is cultural exchange between Asia and France. As artistic advisor for the city of Bourges, Mr. Chen helps the city officials in their decisions for various exhibits and in particular for the exhibits taking place at the Château d’Eau in Bourges. Since the ART-TENSION Gallery opened in 2004, he does his best to show young innovative artists. Asian artists have been able to exhibit their works , alternating with western artists. Making connections between the historic heritage of Bourges and contemporary artistic creation, Mr. Chen considers himself as a middleman. Twenty exhibits have taken place coming from all over the world : Japan, Germany, England, the USA, Argentina, Taiwan, China, Korea, France. En 2004 and 2006, Mr. Chen was on the board of organisers of the Biennale of Bourges.

In 2005, seven Japanses artists exhibited their work at the Gallery. In 2006, Mr Chen was a

member of the jury of the CASO exhibition in Osaka. He is always interested in working as a commissioner on a committee to select works for exhibit. All offers will be taken into consideration.
