Nous approchons de la fin de l’année 2014 et je voudrais profiter de cette newsletter pour vous souhaiter d’excellentes fêtes de fin d’année et une année 2015 à la hauteur de vos attentes pour vous et vos proches.
As we are approaching the end of 2014, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy festive season and a new year filled with expectations both for you and your loved ones.
Comme vous pourrez le lire par ailleurs dans l’article de Mme Nord, notre Directrice académique, les événements se succèdent à un rythme effréné au fil des semaines et je voudrais, pour ma part, insister sur quatre informations essentielles.

La période des fêtes approche grandement, il est donc temps de réfléchir au temps qui s’est écoulé jusqu’ici. Comme à son habitude, de nombreuses activités ont eu lieu à l'école et nous poussons nos élèves à être fiers de leurs réalisations. D’excellents concerts de musique mis sur pied par nos étudiants, la récente performance de la pièce de théâtre du IGCSE et un magnifique spectacle de danse, ainsi que de nombreux prix remis récemment au sein de l’internat, montrent une fois de plus à quel point nos étudiants sont engagés au sein du CDL. Notre programme académique continue de croître et s’épanouir...
As the holiday season approaches it is time to reflect on the term gone by. As usual it has been packed with activities in all corners of the school and we have witnessed our students grow with pride over their accomplishments. Each area holds its own importance, from the excellent music concerts put on by our students, the recent IGCSE drama performance and an exciting dance show, to the many Boarding House awards handed out recently, our students once again show how committed they are. As our academic curriculum flourishes

Gift Box Appeal : Un grand merci à tous les participants. Grâce à vos dons, le CDL a envoyé 302 boîtes. Visite d’auteurs: L’évènement 2015 aura lieu du 9 au 12 Février avec 2 auteurs anglophones (Steve Cole et Sarwat Chadda) et un auteur francophone (Susie Morgenstern). Préscolaire : Les enfants du préscolaire ont eu beaucoup de plaisir à célébrer la fête de Thanksgiving le 27 Novembre passé. Aarohan: La vente des uniformes usagés, de chocolat chaud ainsi qu’une aimable donation d’un étudiant ont permis de récolter CHF 357 en novembre. Gift box appeal: Thank you to all those who made gift boxes. CDL donated 302 boxes. A total of 2031 were donated from the Geneva area which will be distributed in Belarus and Moldova. Visiting Author: The 2015 event will take place on 9th – 12th February and will feature 2 Anglophone authors (Steve Cole and Sarwat Chadda) and 1 Francophone author (Susie Morgenstern). Preschool: The preschool children had a great time as they celebrated Thanksgiving on the 27th November. Aarohan Update: The Used Uniform and Hot Chocolate sale in November along with a kind donation from a student raised 357 CHF. Visite de la chocolaterie Faverger: En cette période de Noël, les élèves de 5ème accompagnés de Mmes Dubettier, Reiter et Rome se sont rendus à la manufacture Favarger à Versoix. Sortie au Musée d’histoire de Lausanne – Classe de Seconde Baccalauréat: Dans le cadre des cours du Module littérature et société, des élèves de seconde baccalauréat accompagnés de Mmes Bourgeois et Copponnex se sont rendus au musée d'histoire de Lausanne Voyage à Auschwitz: 20 élèves des classes de Première Bac et Première Matu, accompagnés de Mrs Berny et Leger, ont participé à un voyage d’étude au camp d’extermination d’Auschwitz-Birkenau. Meritas Games: At the start of this week, the CDL Meritas Games Team returned exhausted but excited to recount their stories of victory and of defeat. Upcoming Activities: On the afternoon of Thursday 18th December, Middle School and 1er cycle students will join together for the final House Event of the Year. SOA Calendars: SOA calendars featuring pictures taken during the CDL trip to the orphanage this summer are on sale for CHF10. A great idea for a holiday gift for friends or family!

Honor and High Honor roll: At the end of each marking period we celebrate the success of our highest achievers at the grade assemblies. Many students received a certificate to congratulate them for their excellent academic performance. The Winter break is approaching and it is a good opportunity to remind everyone of our attendance policy !

37ème course de l'Escalade: La Soirée Pâtes de la veille de la course fut une autre belle réussite. Marché de Noël 2014: Il s’est tenu pour la 1ère fois un samedi et le résultat a été très positif. Date à retenir – la Foire aux Carrières annuelle qui se tiendra le 4 Février 2015.
Escalade Race: The pre-pasta race was again a big success. Many thanks to M. Theze, Ms Nord, Ms Jacquet and M. Seroux for serving the pasta. 2014 Christmas Market was held on a Saturday and the response has been very positive. A date for the diary – the annual Career Fair will be held on February 4th 2015

La procédure d’inscriptions pour les études de médecine en Suisse est ouverte. Les élèves qui souhaitent poursuivre leurs études universitaires en France peuvent se connecter au portail Admission PostBac www.admission-postbac.fr pour divers renseignements. Nous aurons la chance d’accueillir un groupe d’anciens élèves du CdL le 17 décembre 2014 qui feront une présentation aux élèves de première/terminale/IB1/IB2/G11/G12. Les élèves de première, Grade 11 et IB1 interessés par poursuivre des études secondaires aux Etats-Unis et dans d’autres universités demandant les examens SAT ou ACT devraient commencer à prévoir de passer ces examens au printemps.

On December 17th 2014 CdL will be hosting an exciting University Alumni Panel where a group of CDL alumni attending the following universities will speak to students about their experiences. We had a successful presentation by King’s College London, University College London, Imperial College and the London School of Economics on 1 December. Grade 11, IB1 and première students interested in the US and other universities that require SAT or ACT exams should start planning to take the exam in the spring.

Sports Tip: Commencer par faire ce qui est nécessaire… puis faites ce qui est possible… tout à coup vous ferez l’impossible. Félicitations à l’équipe primaire filles de foot en salle pour avoir gagné le tournoi SGIS. Félicitations à l’équipe séniore filles pour avoir obtenu un résultat exceptionnel en remportant le championnat ADISR. Félicitations à l’équipe de seniors garçons pour avoir défendu avec succès la prestigieuse coupe SGIS. L’équipe a aussi remporté le championnat ADISR, en battant La Chataigneraie 68-53 dans un match de haut niveau. Bravo au plus de 250 coureurs du Collège, parents et élèves, lors de leur participation à la course de l’Escalade. Félicitations aux élèves de 4ème / grade 8 qui ont représenté le CDL aux Meritas Games, qui réunit chaque année les meilleurs athlètes des 12 écoles Meritas.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls achieved an outstanding result by winning the ADISR Championship. Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Team for successfully defending the prestigious SGIS Cup. The team also took gold in the ADISR Championship. They defeated La Chataigneraie 68-53. Well done to the more than 250 CDL Staff and Students that participated in the Escalade. The event is the largest running event in Switzerland with more than 36,000 runners. Congratulations to the Grade 8 / 4ème Middle Schoolers that represented our School in the Meritas Games, an annual sports event
