Chapter 5, lesson 1 Dear readers, I am in Winchester Avenue, at number 54. That’s right. It’s the place where Jonathan Reed killed his family with an axe because a little voice told him to. I talked to people in town and things went down the same way every time. While they are trying to sell you something, they say the house is haunted by the Reeds’ ghosts. I don’t know if it’s true yet but one thing is sure, the house has become a tourist attraction ever since the tragedy. Indeed, the house is visited by thousands of people each year and many pictures are taken. And T-shirts and mugs are sold at every corner in town. […] Good news, I am allowed by the Mayor to spend the night in the house to investigate on the Reeds’ ghosts! Let’s see if this house is really haunted. […] 1:30 a.m: The floorboards have creaked several times so far but this doesn’t prove anything! As I’ve told you, the house is made of wood and it is old. 3:12 a.m: I heard a strange noise. It is probably the wind. The house is not properly insulated. 4:56 a.m: So far, nothing has been recorded on my digital voice recorder. […] I have spent the night at the Reeds’ house and nothing happened. The house is not haunted but I think I know why the rumor about the Reeds’ ghosts is spread. The population in Jefferson Town needs people to believe this house is haunted to make a living. Plus, the Reeds’ house can’t be sold. I mean, it’s not haunted but would you buy it? I know I wouldn’t. Samantha Clark’s Diary of Ghosts
