Chapter 9, lesson 5 Day 1: I can’t believe they attacked us! I can’t believe the aliens attacked us! In the last ten years, they were nothing but friendly and yet, that didn’t stop them from killing 600 million of us last night. Until yesterday, if you had told me they were dangerous, I would have laughed at your face. Nobody saw it coming. What will they do next? Are they going to exterminate us? I’m scared. I’m angry. I feel so betrayed. I thought they were our friends. Why did they do that? Day 3: They struck again yesterday. Millions have died but I don’t see how we could have defended ourselves. Indeed, they have robots and laser guns!! We didn’t stand a chance. Thank God, we have given up hope yet. The resistance will meet tonight to plan an attack on the aliens. We must find solutions to strike back and send them where they come from. We must take action quickly. Even though I hate weapons, I’m ready to fight. The space invaders must go home. Day 17: I don’t understand! We lost so many people during the attack and we haven’t killed a single one of them. They seem to have a sort of invisible shield which protects them from our bullets. Yet, we must find their weakness, otherwise we will never win and we will all die. When I think about it, it’s like they knew all about the attack. But they can’t have known that! They can’t have known that unless … unless we have a mole. Yes, it must be it! We have a mole! Day 46: Despite the fact that the aliens haven’t attacked for eleven days, I don’t dare travel during the day. I live underground. The aliens took over almost every city except for one. And since it is the only free city in the world, that is where I will go tomorrow unless something happens to me before. Everybody I knew is dead. I really wish we had never got their signal. I wish they had never come to us and stayed on Earth.
