CARBON V®

Some of our Cold Steel® knives are made from Carbon V®, a high carbon, low alloy cutlery grade steel. This steel is superior in performance to most other steels due to its chemistry and also because of the close controls that we maintain at every stage of the manufacturing process. These controls begin at the steel mill where Cold Steel® specifies the desired microstructure of the steel. Once smelted, each steel shipment is microscopically checked for structural quality, cleanliness and chemical content by an independent metallurgist not in the mill's employ. The blades are then blanked parallel to the rolling direction of the steel plate to optimize grain flow along the length of the blade. The final step is a precise heat treatment sequence that was developed by Cold Steel® specifically for this custom steel. This heat treatment process is one of our most highly guarded trade secrets. It was arrived at over several years by using an exhaustive series of practical and metallurgical tests and observations.

PERFORMANCE

AUS STAINLESS STEELS

The words “stainless steel” are misleading, because, in fact, all steel will stain or show discoloration if left in adverse conditions for a sufficient time. Steel is made “stainless” by adding Chromium and reducing its Carbon content during the smelting process. There is a serious performance trade-off with stainless steel. As the Chromium increases and the Carbon decreases, the steel becomes more “stainless”. But, it also becomes more and more difficult to sharpen, and the edge-holding potential is seriously impaired. This is usually why most stainless knives are rarely razor-sharp and quickly lose what little edge they have. In contrast, at Cold Steel® we use AUS 8A Stainless, a high carbon, low chromium steel that has proven itself to be the ultimate compromise between toughness and strength, edge holding, and resistance to corrosion. AUS 6A is a medium to high carbon stainless which is tougher than ATS-34, 440C, ATS-55, etc., but still holds a good edge. This means it is particularly well suited for heavier, longer blades that are subjected to a lot of stress while chopping and hacking.

SAN MAI III®

San Mai means “three layers”. It’s the term given to the traditional laminated blades used by the Japanese for swords and daggers. Laminated construction is important because it allows different grades of steel to be combined in a single blade. A simple way to think of this type of construction is to imagine a sandwich: The meat center is hard, high carbon steel and the pieces of bread on either side are the lower-carbon, tough side panels. The edge of the blade should be hard to maximize edge holding ability, but if the entire blade was hard it could be damaged during the rigors of battle. For ultimate toughness the body of the blade must be able to withstand impact and lateral stresses. Toughness is generally associated with “softness” and “flexibility” in steel, so that, surprisingly, if a blade is made “tough” the edge won’t be hard enough to offer superior edge holding. San Mai III® provides a blade with hard (higher carbon) steel in the middle for a keen, long lasting edge and tougher (lower-carbon) steel along the sides for flexibility. This laminate is 25% stronger than our incredibly tough AUS 8A Stainless.

420 SUB ZERO QUENCH

5150

Cold Steel® has always sub zero quenched the blades that we have manufactured in Japan, and we are now adding this often omitted, yet crucial, process to the heat treating sequence of the new blades we are making in Taiwan. Typically, stainless steel blades suffer from retained austenite after they have been heated to critical temperature and then air or gas cooled. The big drawback of this procedure is that it doesn’t get the blades cold enough to assure complete transformation from an austenite to martensite grain structure. Only by freezing—sub zero quenching—stainless blades to 120 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit), will the austenite be completely transformed to martensite. This assures the blade will be as hard, strong, and wear resistant as it can possibly be.

A. Our Folding knives are tested (and have been proven) to withstand more weight pressure on their locks than 99% of our competitor’s similar models.

C. The XL Voyager ® plowing through 2" of free hanging Manila rope. Manila rope is very tough on a knife edge. Blades that can repeatedly cut this rope will last indefinitely under normal field use.

E. Shaving is a quick and reliable indicator of sharpness. Most factory and custom knives do not exhibit this sharpness when first used. All Cold Steel® knives are shaving sharp, right out of the box!

B. A Carbon V® Trail Master® Bowie under extreme pressure at about 23° in a vise. This blade returned to true after over one hour in this position. Most knives shatter or permanently bend well before they reach this point.

D. Retaining an edge while repeatedly cutting pine wood indicates superior fine edge retention. We maximize this potential in our knives.

F. Critics say that practically any knife can be stabbed through a car door... but unlike other knives, our Gunsite™ folder’s reinforced Tanto point is remarkably unaffected by the ordeal.

5150 is a medium carbon, low alloy steel that is particularly well suited to the hot forging process. This steel has the properties to harden well, making it ideal for heat treating blades that have a very thick cross section such as tomahawks, axes, etc. After the quenching process, blades will be completely hardened at Rc 5560. The combination of carbon and alloy elements also produces an extremely tough and impact resistant steel in the hardened and tempered condition which is essential in a tool which is hafted and or thrown.

WARRANTY We stand behind our knives 100%. We subject them to the highest standards in the industry and strive to make each one as perfect as possible. Our fixed blade sheath knives have a five year warranty to the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. Our folding knives are warranted for one year. Most of the tests shown on these pages and in our MORE PROOF DVD are dangerous and should not be duplicated. ANY knife can be broken or damaged if subjected to sufficient abuse. ALL knives eventually wear out and must be replaced. These destructive tests constitute gross abuse of a knife. Duplicating them will void your warranty.

MORE PROOF

The Cold Steel Challenge was held in Piru, California, during the weekend of September 18th and 19th, 2004. It was an extraordinary event with knife and sword fighting competitions, and various throwing competitions. We had contestants from as far away as Germany competing for the top honors! And over $10,000 in prizes was awarded overall! In addition to the competitive events we had practice lanes that were open to the public where people could try out our throwers, the Bad Axe, Special Forces Shovel, and Samburu Spears. During the noon break there were demonstrations and impromptu seminars given by experts in their fields. We had Bob Karp, who is better known as “The Master of the Blade” there to give an exhibition of his skill at knife and tomahawk throwing. Anthony DeLongis was there too and he gave some entertaining, and enlightening, whip and sword fighting demonstrations. It was a great couple of days and we are already planning 2005’s event and thinking about what we can do to make it even bigger and better. For updates and more information, go to our website: www.coldsteel.com. We hope to see you there.

COLD STEEL CHALLENGE

This is the DVD our competitors and their cronies at the knife magazines don’t want you to see. In 1996, our documentary video, PROOF, sent ripples of controversy through the knife industry and gave the magazines a jolt in the gut. The magazines (true to form) generally gave little or no coverage to PROOF. They did this, we believe, out of fear that it would embarrass other knife manufacturers and thereby cost the magazines their life’s blood, the money that they get from selling advertising space. For example, we knew of editors who had seen PROOF, had personally tested our knives themselves and discovered that our products far surpassed what was being produced by our competition yet they would not report on what they saw and knew. It seems to us that if you’re going to publish a magazine, you ought to put some truth in it. Instead, all we saw were countless articles and ads overflowing with specious, self-serving propaganda designed solely to keep those advertising dollars flowing into the magazine’s coffers. It’s a tiresome situation. The magazines want to stay in business, so they can’t afford to offend their advertisers, but the result is that the knife buying public is being massively deceived about the strength, toughness, cutting power, and edge retention of the knives they read about. Our competitors will, of course, continue to make gross exaggerations about their products. They will use carefully worded phrases in their advertising that SUGGEST and IMPLY high performance without producing any evidence to back such claims. And, worst of all, the magazines will pump out the same fawning drivel month after month with nary a word of truth. But our DVD will shake the very foundations of the knife world. MORE PROOF will take on that timeworn and precarious structure of lies that the magazines have allowed to grow and propagate and knock it all down like a house of cards. MORE PROOF is once again going to raise the bar even higher and show the public what Cold Steel is all about. We make, hands down, the world’s strongest, sharpest knives!

NOW WITH SECOND BONUS DVD MATERIAL...

INCLUDING: • SWORD PROOF • BIG BORE ™ BLOWGUNS • SPEARS IN ACTION Most of the tests shown in our MORE PROOF DVD are dangerous and should not be duplicated. These destructive tests constitute GROSS ABUSE of a knife. Duplicating these tests or altering your knife will void your warranty. The warranty covers defects in materials and/or workmanship. It does not cover abuse or the effects of normal wear and tear. Do not use your knife as a pry bar, axe, chisel, screwdriver, or saw. Keep in mind that our serrated knives are designed to cut fibrous materials like rope and that hard material, like bone, wire, and metal may damage their edge.

BLACK TALON™

When you purchase one of our new Black Talon™ tactical folders there’s a phrase you’ll start hearing more and more: “Man, that’s one mean looking knife!” The Black Talon™ is indeed an awe inspiring, ferocious looking knife. It’s efficient both coming and going and will rip, cut, or slash through just about any obstacle or material you put in its path. This is because of its needle sharp, talon-like point, and its sinuously curved blade. The blade is made from our own exclusive San Mai III® stainless steel so you know it will hold an edge for a long time and will rarely require re-sharpening. The elegantly simple grip of this

NEW FOR 2005

all-out cutting blade is strong and sturdy. It features a robust Titanium frame, which supports the forged Titanium bolsters and highly textured G-10 scales. The well built, yet highly refined, Titanium leaf spring lock will protect one’s fingers from the Black Talon’s™ razor sharp edge. This lock, in our tests, has proved itself peerless when it comes to withstanding great shock and stress. For instant access, the Black Talon™ has a uniquely shaped thumb hole cut into the blade making it a snap to open with either hand. And for convenience and security there is a compact pocket clip and a steel lined lanyard hole. The clip is removable, so it can accommodate left and righthanded users alike.

BLACK SABLE™

Your friends may turn a pronounced shade of green—with envy that is—the first time you snap open your new Black Sable™ and they start eyeing that magnificent mirror polished blade. Of course, they’ll plead with you to hand it over for closer inspection and of course they’ll immediately want to know where they can get one of their own. We all like to be in the spotlight now and then and when you’re the proud owner of a Cold Steel® Black Sable™, not only will you have a finely crafted folder; you’ll also have bragging rights that will last for years. Consider the blade — made of hollow ground San Mai III® stainless steel and hand polished to a mirror shine — even the most jaded eyes will find it fascinating. But a Cold Steel® blade is more than just homage

to style, this blade has enough substance to be frightfully effective. Every feature from its curved, upswept shape to its acute, reinforced point has been judiciously chosen to maximize cutting and piercing power. Just running your thumb over its razor sharp edge will tell you this is something to be reckoned with. But no folder can stand on the merits of its blade alone. That’s why Cold Steel® spared no expense or effort in making sure every other component corresponds to the blade in quality and performance. The distinctively shaped, pistol grip handle features a Titanium frame overlaid with highly polished black Micarta scales and forged Titanium bolsters that have been matched together and bolted inseparably to the frame with the latest high tech fasteners.

To protect the fingers from the unintentional closure of the blade, the Black Sable™ has been fitted with Cold Steel’s® state of the art “rocker” lock. A highly refined locking mechanism, perfected by Cold Steel® over the last eighteen years, that relies on extra strong springs, super close tolerances and other secret refinements to make it equal, if not superior, in strength, to any other lock on the market. For carrying and operating convenience, the Black Sable™ comes complete with dual, mirror polished pocket clips (for ambidextrous operation), and double thumb studs for rapid deployment.

HATAMOTO™

In feudal Japan one of the most highly coveted titles among a lord’s high-ranking retainers was “Hatamoto”. The fortunate Samurai on who this distinctive honor was bestowed was allowed immediate access to his lord, day and night, and was deemed trustworthy enough to wear his sword in his lord’s presence. Like its namesake, the Hatamoto™ was designed to be a knife worthy of great respect and trust. A knife you will treasure for years and one you can bet your life on in a pinch. The blade has been precision hollow ground out of our famous San Mai III® stainless, 25% stronger than any other stainless steel in the world. For piercing power it features a modified tanto point (first popularized by

NEW FOR 2005

Lynn Thompson in the early 1980’s). It pierces like a dagger yet remains remarkably resistant to bending or breaking. For cutting power, the edge is subtlety curved and ground thin and honed to razor keenness so it will “bite” with even moderate pressure and deliver dramatically deep, gaping cuts with full power blows. To have this remarkable blade come alive in your hand we have crafted a simple yet highly efficient handle that will accommodate a wide variety of grip styles. For strength, rigidity and security, we have resolutely insisted on thick Titanium liners for the frame and overlaid them with high friction G-10 scales that have been reinforced by forged Titanium bolsters. All handle components have been bolted together with the latest in high

strength fasteners to form one homogenous unit of great strength and moderate weight. Lock strength is absolutely critical in a knife like the Hatamoto™, that’s why we have equipped it with the most reliable leaf spring locking mechanism on the market. Made of Titanium and fitted to extremely close tolerances it has proven almost impervious to the stress and shock that would destroy a lesser knife costing even three or four times as much. Quick access and convenient carry are also attributes of the finest tactical folders so we have outfitted the Hatamoto™ with a sleek yet effective pocket clip and thumb stud for lightning fast opening.

CALEDONIAN EDGE™

For almost a decade, Cold Steel® offered a small, wicked looking, boot knife called the Culloden®. It was based on the traditional Scottish “Black Knife” or “Skean Dhu”, as it was more commonly referred to, in Gaelic, the ancient language of Scotland. For the dawning years of this century, however, we have created an entirely new tactical folder, that takes some of its design cues from the ancient Skean Dhu. Our new Caledonian Edge™ features a number of modern variations and refinements on its older predecessor. The blade is made from virtually unbreakable San Mai III® laminated stainless, and, like the original Skean Dhu, features a thin, acutely pointed tip that’s as sharp as the

proverbial needle. It glides effortlessly through even the most puncture resistant materials. Additionally, its precisely and carefully hollow ground blade has been honed so sharp, it will shave hair from your arm just as if you were using a straight razor. The traditional jimping seen on the Skean Dhu of old has been retained and provides an aggressive, non-slip platform for one’s thumb and forefinger, allowing for better control when using the blade to cut or pierce. The Caledonian Edge’s™ handle sports a palm-hugging profile and a relatively thin cross section that augments its covert qualities. It’s flat enough to resist rolling or twisting in one’s palm yet comfortable enough to accommodate a wide range of gripping styles. A perfect blend of strength

It has proved incredibly tough and reliable even when exposed to our most brutal tests. THE SPECTRE™ Original Model Ti-Lite™ (#26S)

Blue Anodized Ti-Lite™ (#26SB)

THE ZYTEL® HANDLED TI-LITES™

Custom quality folding knives, especially those manufactured with Titanium handles and Titanium leaf spring locks are undeniably strong, lightweight, and beautiful to look at, but they’re also quite expensive. We know that many of our customers love the look of our Ti-Lites™ but find the prices a little steep. So we have created some very affordable alternatives. The Zytel® Ti-Lite™ with a 4 inch blade mimics the look of its more expensive counterparts almost exactly, and our new Zytel® Ti-Lite™ with a six inch blade is a completely unique Ti-Lite,™ virtually in a class by itself. Instead of Titanium, we used 43% glass filled Zytel® for the handles and 440A Sub Zero Quenched stainless steel for the leaf spring lock and liners. The results are extraordinarily lightweight knives that are remarkably strong, sharp and good looking, at a price almost everyone can afford.

Zytel® Handled Ti-Lite™ (#26SP)

NEW FOR 2005

Inspiration for this new tactical folder came from custom knife maker Barry Dawson’s neck knife design. That knife featured a slender blade, and a thick spine with a zero ground edge and a skeletonized handle. It was such a compelling concept that we created our own line of knives based upon Barry’s original design, the “Spike™” series (see page 23). Now we’ve produced a new folding variation on that theme that we call the Spectre™. The blade evokes Barry’s original ideas, but is enhanced by a mirror polished surface and is styled with our own Talon point, a blade style which offers absolutely ferocious ripping, cutting and slashing power without compromising the point’s ability to be used for piercing. The Spectre™ is extremely light with a lean profile that fits the hand exceptionally well while offering a good solid grip. It has solid Titanium liners to give its understructure superior strength and the impressive black Micarta scales and polished Titanium bolsters give it a sophisticated exterior. Its so stunningly handsome, you’ll be constantly looking for excuses to lift it out of your pocket to just to show it off. For safety and convenience the Spectre™ features our peerless leaf spring locking mechanism. Several years of testing and subtle improvements in construction have made this one of the safest and most reliable locks available at any price. For even greater versatility and usefulness, we have outfitted the Spectre™ with a slim, yet stylish, pocket clip and thumb stud so you can clip it to the pocket of thin, light weight trousers or a coat pocket and open it in a flash when needed.

The blade has a black Teflon® finish to minimize light reflection and rust. Like our other Cold Steel® knives, it is honed to razor sharpness so it will bite deep with the lightest stroke. The handsome Zytel® handle mirrors the two-part construction technique used in our Pro Lite™ series (see page 18) and features a unique leafspring lock of our own design. Finally, to keep your Night Force™ folder handy and ready to use at a moment’s notice, there are thumb studs on both sides of the blade for one handed opening, and an unobtrusive pocket clip on the right side of the handle.

Our Recon 1™ tactical folders are sure to set a new standard that will be hard to beat, because they are as tough as nails and cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as possible. The blades are made out 440A Sub Zero Quenched stainless steel and the handles are thick Zytel®, massively reinforced by heat treated steel liners and five locking bolts. To compliment their super tough blades and handles, they each feature our revolutionary Ultra Lock™ (patent pending, see the box below) which practically precludes lock failure. To compliment their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough black Teflon® finish. Our testing has shown this coating or finish offers three major advantages for use on tactical blades. The first is; it is highly resistant to scratches and abrasions while keeping rust at bay. Secondly, it eliminates glare and light reflections which may give its user away. The third advantage is that it’s a superior lubricant which causes the blade to slip through even tough materials with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non Teflon® coated blade. As the knife is opened, the blade rotates around the locking pin via a larger cut channel in the blade tang. Prior to reaching the fully opened position, the spring loaded locking pin moves forward through the oncoming straight portion of the tang channel until it “dead ends”. At this point the blade is rigidly locked open and can’t budge as the locking pin is surrounded by solid steel which prevents any movement of the blade. In fact, this lockup is so strong it can only be overcome in two manners. The first is to apply so much force to the blade that the locking pin shears off or breaks through the solid steel blade tang. The second is to manually retract the locking pin far enough that it escapes the straight part of the channel.

GUNSITE™ FOLDERS

Cold Steel® is right on target with the Gunsite™ Folders—the first authorized and official knives of the Gunsite™ Training Center. The state-of-the-art rocker lock, perfected by Cold Steel®, is the strongest mechanism of its kind, with extra stiff springs. The Tanto style blades are substantially wider than any competitor’s and are ground thin and honed to razor sharpness. The result is superb control, shearing power, and penetration. The Zytel® handle features a deeply checkered, oval cross section that’s thick enough for strength and stiffness, yet doesn’t feel “bulky”. Nothing compares to the fit and finish of the Gunsite™ Folders, with precision parts milled and hand fitted to virtually custom quality. Like our Voyagers,® the Gunsite™ Folders come with a stainless steel pocket clip for easy, convenient carry.

When someone’s life is in danger, there is often not enough time to fumble around trying to open a Swiss Army® or “tool” type knife and then saw frantically in a desperate bid to free them. Those knives have blades that are just too short, narrow and dull to immediately sever thick, tough, or fibrous material. When seconds count, the Land & Sea/Rescue™ Knife is more than equal to the challenge. In an emergency, it can be opened in the blink of an eye, and the innovative rocker lock allows worry-free deployment when a life is on the line. Once locked open, the blade can cut with the fury of a chainsaw with its wide, flat ground surface and serrated edge. The unique “sheep’s foot” style AUS 8A Stainless blade is ideal for rescue situations because it is less likely to injure accident victims when cutting away seat belts or clothing. And the tough, Zytel® handle is contoured and deeply checkered for a solid, non-slip grip. The Land & Sea/Rescue™ Knife sports a small, but powerful steel pocket clip, to keep the blade within easy reach at all times.

VOYAGER ® SERIES

Due to their light weight and convenience, Zytel® handled lockbacks have gained enormous popularity over somwhat heavier, traditional lockbacks with metal bolsters and wooden scale handles. Our Voyager® Series represents the difinitive generation of these ultra-light knives, a line of folders that are sure to be the standard by which others are judged for years to come! The Voyager® folders are made from the same premium stainless steel that goes into our famous Tanto. They feature precision milled and hand fitted parts with extra stiff springs. This provides a lock that is safer and stronger than most traditional folders. The blades are extremely wide and ground thin at the edge for tremendous shearing potential. This thin edge allows us to hone the blade to astounding sharpness. Plus, the cutting surface is continuously curved along its entire length for the most efficient possible slicing action. Because of the high carbon content in the stainless steel, you’ll find that the sharpness really lasts a surprisingly long time. If you like serrations, you’ll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It offers the aggressive ripping action of serrated teeth, but with a twist. Our design features groups of very small teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs. This results in the benefits of both a plain and a serrated edge, so that the knife still cuts smoothly through almost any material. The Voyager® Series offers all the advantages of the latest in lockback construction technology including lightning-quick onehanded opening, light weight and strength. The result is an appealing look with very modern styling. Every detail has been designed for maximum performance from the reinforced pivot pin and stainless steel pocket clip, to the grooved thumb shelf on the back of the knife for extra traction. The handles are somewhat oval shaped in crosssection, increasing strength and stiffness. Yet, the handle doesn’t feel or appear thicker due to the subtly contoured design. As tools, these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping, to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, a chute knife or demanding police/survival/rescue applications.

First popularized by the Balisong company in the early 1980’s, the Butterfly knife, with its revolving handles and super strong lock, took the entire nation by storm. There has been, however, one catch. Since the early 1990’s, United States Customs has forbidden the importation of all Butterfly knives under (what can only be assumed to be) their arbitrary interpretation of the Switch Blade Act. This policy has, in turn, severely curtailed the available market supply of these awesome tactical folders. Our Arc-Angel™ Butterfly knives are not imported, but precision made right here in the USA and display the finest craftsmanship. The blades are flat ground out of our world famous Carbon V® steel and honed to a razor edge for real cutting power.

Double Edge (#96BSD) Clip Pt. (#96BSCW)

The skeletonized handles are CNC machined out of solid Titanium billets (not cast, like cheaper knives) for maximum strength without unnecessary weight or bulkiness. Each is hand polished and assembled by skilled technicians for flawless opening and closing action that will both delight and amaze you. Finally, for portability, we have integrated a state of the art pocket clip so you can discretely carry your ArcAngel™ with you wherever you go. Clip Point

Superior engineering combines traditional appeal with the latest Western technology in the contoured Zytel® and steel frame. Its sleek curves, finger grooves and

checkering settle naturally and securely into the hand, maximizing the user’s ability to control both the edge and the point. To provide maximum strength, we have equipped the Scimitar™ with a Titanium leaf-spring lock. The strength of Titanium is peerless in the cutlery industry, and recent tests resulted in the Scimitar™ holding 200 pounds without collapsing. This far exceeds the load-bearing ability of our competitors.

Packing an awesome punch, Cold Steel’s® Triple Action® folding knives prove that formidable power and strength in a folding knife do not require the weight of an anvil. With a convenient pocket clip, and a closed length of only 5 inches, the 3.5 ounce Triple Action® folders are a dynamite innovation. A super-tough blade of AUS 8A stainless steel provides superb cutting ability in the world’s finest combination of blade strength and flexibility. The aircraft grade aluminum handle (roll engraved with a distinctive pattern) gives the Triple Action® an excep-

tional look, and the pocket clip makes it easy to carry. Cold Steel’s® Triple Action® Folder is among the safest knives you can carry. When closed, the blade is totally encapsulated by the locking cover, and when open the solid aluminum construction and heavy duty lock prevent the blade from closing. When closed, the Triple Action® Folder is a force to be reckoned with. Its solid construction makes it very stiff, strong, and unyielding in tough situations, giving its user confidence in its effectiveness and eliminating any fear of breaking the knife.

PRO LITE ™

VAQUERO ® SERIES

Made for the professional hunter, guide, or outfitter — but sure to be appreciated by sportsmen around the globe—the Pro Lites™ can do it all. Whether you’re skinning muskrat, moose, or simply just cleaning a catfish for supper, one of these blades is sure to fit your needs. Available in Clip Point, Drop Point, or Tanto point blade configurations, with either serrated or plain edges, all of the blades in the series are big and wide with plenty of belly. They’re ground thin at the edge so they will sheer deep and cut cleanly into anything. Extra hearty, durable handles were the only choice for knives like the Pro Lites™ so we made ours out of Zytel®. The Zytel® is injection molded in two parts then reinforced with stainless steel liners, and the whole package is then locked together by five bolts. To protect your fingers from the Pro Lite’s™ super keen edge, the blade, once opened, is rigidly locked in place with our strong leaf spring lock. This locking mechanism has been extensively tested by Cold Steel® and will reliably hold 100 lbs. without catastrophic failure, making it the equal of any lock in the world when it comes to safety. We know that your Pro Lite™ wouldn’t be very useful if you couldn’t open it quickly in an emergency situation or keep it handily available at your side. That’s why we have equipped the blade with a thumb hole for easy ambidextrous, one-handed opening, and the handle with a strong pocket clip.

The distinctive Vaquero® Series blades are ideal for shearing through thick, fibrous materials like manila rope, cable, hose, and belts. All of the knives in the series feature double thumb studs for ambidextrous, lightning fast opening, and jimping on the blade spine to provide the thumb with extra purchase and control. Plus, they have lightweight Zytel® handles with stainless clips, making it easy to keep your Vaquero® folder nearby at all times. These blades are precision flat ground to form a long shallow “V” shaped cross section, and the edges form a sinuous double curve. This means that whatever material is struck with the inward curving portion of the edge (nearest the hand) will force the remaining outward curved edge entirely through.

ULTIMATE HUNTER ™

COUNTRY CLASSICS

The Country Classics collection draws inspiration from time honored American folding knife styles that date back too many generations to count. Most men can recall their boyhood days when they got their first “whittling” or pocket knife; passed down from their father, grandfather, or even an elder brother, a simple ceremony that has become a rite of passage. The Country Classics are a indeed a hearty set of folders. They each feature solid brass liners and blades made from our exclusive Carbon V® steel for superior edge holding ability. They are attractively designed too, with nickel-silver bolsters and faux jig bone handles.

Have you ever imagined a hunting knife that has the safety and convenience of a folding knife, yet has the strength and cutting power of a fixed blade? Cold Steel® has taken this thought one step further and made it a reality with our Ultimate Hunter.™ Cold Steel® President, Lynn C. Thompson, a world-renowned hunter in his own right, and custom knife maker, Lloyd Pendleton, have designed a folder that offers everything you could want in a hunting knife. The blade, featuring Lloyd’s famous drop point configuration, is ideal for field dressing and skinning big game animals and is stout enough to withstand considerable abuse without snapping. It’s fashioned from 4 millimeter thick AUS 8A stainless steel and hollow ground to an unbelievably sharp edge that will last and last yet remain easy to re-sharpen. A deep lustrous satin finish highlights the blade’s precision grinding and enhances the Ultimate Hunter’s™ visual appeal. The state-of-the-art rocker lock is the result of 18 years of hard won technical skill. No one in the industry makes a stronger lock than Cold Steel.® The precision milled, hand fitted parts and extra thick, stiff springs will provide safety under hard use and the special heat treatment, along with other secret refinements, make this lock a formidably strong and reliable piece of workmanship. The Ultimate Hunter’s™ most winning feature is its exceptionally comfortable Thermorun® grip. It’s specially contoured to fit the palm, absorbing shocks and sticking to one’s hand with the kind of traction only Thermorun® can provide. It can be wielded for hours without discomfort or fatigue. Thumb studs, for one handed opening are included on both sides of the blade and a custom designed pocket clip means your Ultimate Hunter™ will be close at hand and ready for your next hunting or outdoor adventure!

CLASSIC BIRD KNIFE

Upland game and bird hunting must be one of life’s greatest pleasures. There’s little else that can compare to being afield on a crisp Fall day, surrounded by old friends, a few good dogs, and plenty of birds in the air. But cleaning and drawing the day’s bag can be a real chore if you don’t have a good bird knife. Our version has a long, narrow clip point blade and vent hook that were specifically designed for cleaning birds. It will go a long way toward making the end of a successful hunt just as pleasurable as its beginning.

Two Blade Muskrat (#54TM) Weight: Thick: Blade: Overall:

This is one great small-game knife. It features two long, narrow clip point blades with thin, razor sharp edges. Originally it was favored by trappers who specialized in small fur bearing animals like mink or muskrat, and is now more widely valued as a superb caping knife. This is due to its ability to make the fine cuts that are necessary around the eyes, nose, and ears. This is definitely a cutting tool every hunter should own.

CLASSIC TRAPPER

Whether you’re a hunter, trapper, or all around outdoorsman, you’re sure to appreciate our Classic Trapper. It is built on a 4" swell center jack knife die and boasts two big working blades. The master blade is almost 3 1/2" long and features a long clip point, useful for sticking and general utility work. The second blade is an equally long spey blade used for skinning. Both blades are flat ground and expertly tempered for an edge that really lasts.

SAFE KEEPER®

This push knife design was first popularized in the U.S. during the 1849 Gold Rush in California. It was highly successful because it creatively combined compact size, pronounced efficiency, and an unparalleled grip, all in a single knife. Now Cold Steel® is happy to present the finest production push knives in almost 150 years. Designed for the 21st century, these knives are becoming popular with military personnel around the world because, unlike a revolver or automatic pistol, they never break, malfunction, or run out of ammunition. What’s more, they offer “big knife” capabilities in a compact package (2" shorter overall than most boot knives) that can be easily attached to tactical web gear, tucked in a waistband or boot top, or strapped to a wrist or ankle.

THE SPIKE™

The Spike™designed by custom knife maker Barry Dawson, is a weapon pared down to its bare essentials. Its thick, narrow blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. This creates a unique cross section that facilitates both BARRY DAWSON penetration of the tip and a cutting power previously unknown in such a thick, narrow blade. The integral handle of The Spike™ compliments its simple, minimalist qualities. It has been shaped out of solid steel, then wrapped with black cord. All of the hard-corner edges on the grip have been softened or “melted” to be more rounded so their contours won’t irritate one’s hand. THE KOBUN®

The Kobun® or “soldier” has some resemblance to our Oyabun® (See page 36),but it also has some qualities that make it more akin to a boot knife. Most boot knives are notorious for paper thin, easily bent or broken points. In contrast, the Kobun’s® point is highly resistant to this because it is reinforced by the full thickness of the blade’s spine which runs almost to the very tip. The Kobun’s® handle is designed to offer minimum bulk with maximum grip, so it can be deeply concealed on one’s person yet easily drawn and confidently wielded. To accomplish this, its cross section was made as thin as possible (approximately half of an inch), then deeply contoured to resist turning or shifting in the hand. To insure a non-slip grip, deeply checkered Kraton® is used in its surface construction. SPECIFICATIONS :

DESPERADO®

The Desperado of the mythic “West”... He was an outlaw. He was an individual with nothing left to lose, and an astonishing reputation to be gained. With some formidable skills with a gun and a knife, he became one fierce opponent, worthy of respect and often, widely feared. Cold Steel® has produced a knife which lives up to that reputation, and more, with our versatile Desperado!® The Desperado® features a serrated, 5" Nogales™ clip point blade and an innovative egg shaped Kraton® handle. It combines the performance sensibilities of a push dagger with the versatility of a conventional boot knife. Special attention was paid to the knife point. Designed to be sharp, yet thick enough to withstand hard impact and even light prying, the Desperado’s® point has strong advantages over other blades that have less pronounced curves.

LAREDO BOWIE

Awesome is the only adjective that even begins to describe our Laredo Bowie. In fact, it really has to be seen to be appreciated, since mere words just don’t do it justice. We are confident it will outperform 99% of hand forged Bowies on the market, even those that are twice, or perhaps three times as expensive! It features a long, heavy blade made from our exclusive Carbon V® steel. It is expertly heat treated (utilizing seven tempering operations), and flat ground to produce incredible cutting power and perfect balance. As an added bonus, it is given an absolutely ferocious cutting edge that terminates in a dagger sharp point. To further enhance its versatility and efficiency as a weapon it sports a 41/2" long fully sharpened clip point that helps

facilitate the deadly back cut as well as a wide variety of more conventional cuts and stabbing attacks. The rich, Faux Cocobolo handle is as tough as it is beautiful. It is specially contoured to fit the hand like a glove and to provide a positive grip when cutting, chopping or thrusting. To complement the Laredo’s incredibly sharp blade, and superb handle we have arduously forged a unique guard and integral bolster out of a single piece of brass. Both bolster and guard are handsomely detailed and finished with a lustrous mirror polish. To keep your Laredo Bowie safely at your side and ready for action, we have provided a traditionally styled brown leather scabbard that features heavy stitching, brass rivets, thick leather, and a convenient brass belt peg so you can safely slip the sheath under your belt.

THE TRAIL MASTER®

Carbon V® Trail Master®

In 1986, Cold Steel® redefined the Bowie tradition with its introduction of the Trail Master.® This knife’s reputation quickly took on legendary proportions after Cold Steel® issued a challenge to the knife industry. The challenge was simple: “make a better knife.” But to this day, no factory we know of has successfully produced a better knife.

THE TRAIL MASTER® IN CARBON V®:

Why buy a Carbon V® Trail Master®? That’s simple. Because it is, without a doubt, the most knife for the money ever built. In terms of sharpness, edge holding, strength and sheer cutting power, it will outperform any factory made knife we know of and 99% of all hand forged knives as well. We know it may sound like we are going out on a limb with this statement, but unlike our competitors, we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that every claim we have made for the Trail Master® is true, not hype. You can see our evidence for yourself in our MORE PROOF DVD. We know, after watching this documentary DVD, any remaining questions in your mind will be answered and you will fully agree that the Trail Master® is simply the best Bowie knife in the world at any price.

PENDLETON HUNTERS

Our president, Lynn Thompson, bought the first knife custom maker Lloyd Pendleton ever made in 1973. Now these friends have collaborated to produce two of Lloyd’s most popular knives, we call them the Pendleton Hunter and the Pendleton Mini Hunter. In fabricating these knives we have tried to duplicate Lloyd’s work as accurately as possible. Both blades are hollow ground and honed to perfection and the handle’s cross sections and contours match Lloyd’s handmade knives exactly. For safety and durability, we have dispensed with leather in favor of Secure-Ex™ for the sheaths. This material won’t rot or mildew and is far more resistant to cuts or L LOYD PENDLETON punctures than leather.

OUTDOORSMAN™

We received requests from some of our more nostalgic customers and friends alike to put the Outdoorsman™, a Cold Steel® favorite that dates back to the mid 1980’s, into production again. It took a while, but eventually we located and dusted off the tooling and proceeded to produce a brand new run. Not willing to sit on our laurels, this time we have added two new improvements. The first improvement is a row of jimping on the blade back. This gives the thumb and index finger more control of the edge because they now have a non-slip platform to rest on. Secondly, we’ve added a chopping edge, or bone breaker. In our tests, this edge hacked through everything we put in front of it, including heavy gauge steel wire, so it’s a sure bet it’ll stand up in the field! As it did before, the Outdoorsman™ comes with a heavy leather sheath, fitted with a brush proof retaining strap.

FILET KNIVES

Now you can filet a fish with a keen blade that lies flat against the backbone and cuts just as if it were going through butter. Honed from 3/32" thick Carbon V® steel, our Filet knives are stronger and tougher than the competition’s and they hold their sharp edges longer than any stainless steel blade. The key to the Filet Knife’s cutting power is an approximately 20% wider blade than most of our competitors. This allows for a long, shallow “V” cross section, a wider grind, and a thinner edge which makes for a sharper knife.

PEACE KEEPERS®

Are you tired of those expensive, double edged knives that are so dull out of the box that they won’t cut butter?...Are you sick of those Pakistani numbers that bend like a wet noodle? What about that well known American model that’s so weak and brittle it can break if dropped in the sink? Well now you have an alternative. The Peace Keepers® — double edged knives that will pierce like a stiletto and cut like a straight razor. Unlike most boot knives and daggers, the Peace Keeper’s® spear point offers considerable resistance to bending or breaking and is well suited for long range cuts and slashes. Each of the Peace Keepers® feature a 3/16" thick blade which receives a high, double grind to produce extremely thin edges that will really “bite”. They are, however, not suitable for prying. The Peace Keeper's® are fashioned with 420 Sub Zero Quench Stainless blades for low maintenance, and treated with Cold Steel’s® custom heat treatment. The Peace Keepers® offer the utmost in strength, toughness, and superior edge retention.

RECON SCOUT ®

In almost every respect, the Recon Scout® is simply a 71/2 inch Trail Master® Bowie. It offers the same steel, heat treatment, blade thickness, blade shape, and handle. Outside of its shorter blade length, the most significant difference is that the Recon Scout® comes with a Secure-Ex™ sheath instead of a leather one. We believe the Recon Scout® is the strongest, toughest 71/2" combat knife in the world. When your consider the price it’s offered at and compare it to the competition, we think you’ll agree it’s the greatest bargain in combat knife history!

The only modifications that were made (in respect to the original model) were to black epoxy powder coat the surface and to utilize an integral Kraton® handle and guard.

GURKHA KUKRI

Taking advantage of its downward curving blade and long, “V” shaped cross section, the Gurkha Kukri places its edge at an angle to a target, creating a powerful shearing effect. The heaviest Kukri on the market, the blade is almost an inch wider near the tip than it is at the handle, which shifts the knife’s balance point forward. This makes it possible for a substantial blow to be struck with minimal effort, using inertia alone to complete the cut.

LTC KUKRI

The curve of our LTC Kukri’s blade is very important because no matter what part of the blade makes contact with a target, the edge is always presented at an angle. This creates a shearing motion, so that the edge slices through the target as the weight of the blade drives it deeper. With its thin cross section it will easily cut wood, brush or other soft objects.

TAI PAN®

The Tai Pan® embodies the best features of a classic dagger while minimizing its shortcomings. Most daggers are notorious for thin, easily broken points. In contrast, the Cold Steel® Tai Pan® features a sturdy spear point which is wide and thick enough to resist breaking. As with the Tanto, the Tai Pan® has a tapered, black Kraton® handle with a unique flattened oval cross section. This material and handle shape is ideal for preventing the knife from shifting or turning in the hand even under the worst circumstances. SPECIFICATIONS : Tai Pan® (#13D)

JAPANESE SWORDS IMPERIAL SERIES

Our factory has used only traditional materials for our Japanese sword’s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of polished brass and each hilt is covered in Samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful brass Menuki ( a small ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and SPECIFICATIONS :

JAPANESE SWORDS WARRIOR SERIES

The Japanese swords of the Imperial Series have proven, since their initial introduction almost three years ago, to be quite popular with many of our customers. Still, we are aware that there are some people who want a battle ready sword but hope to find one at a more affordable price. Our Warrior Series addresses this problem directly. In our efforts to reduce the costliness of the blades, we have omitted the expensive mirror polishing that we used on the Imperial swords to create a new series of Japanese swords with a more practical, economical finish. The Warrior Series swords are very handsome in their own right and share the same steel, heat treatment, and sharpness as their more expensive Imperial counterparts. Like the Imperial swords they have Samé covered, cord wrapped handles and similar quality fittings. If you’re in the market for a strong, good looking, reasonably priced Japanese sword we know you’ll be happy to own one of these.

1830 NAPOLEON SABER

1917 SERIES

Remembered as the seafaring weapon of choice, these swords have an history which stretches back to ancient times. Not only were they made famous in close quarter melees as pirates boarded treasure-laden galleons during the great “Age of Sail”, they also have seen action as standard issue among many of the world’s great navies. In 1917, the U.S. Navy decided to replace its Model 1860 cutlass which had been in continuous service for 57 years, with a new model. Cold Steel’s® modern recreation of this classic fighting sword is as authentic as possible. Just like the original, it features a half basket guard stamped out of heavy 18-gauge carbon steel, blued to match the blade. The handle is fashioned from carefully shaped hardwood painted brown and secured to the full tang by three heavy brass cutler’s rivets. The 1917 series swords are available with a 25" blade (Cutlass) or a 31" blade (Saber). Both feature blued blades to curtail rusting and short clipped points sharp enough for good penetration yet sturdy enough to resist bending or breaking.

Napoleon’s cavalry was the bane of the European battlefield. While his horses were second string, his swords were absolutely first rate. They were manufactured in a state of the art factory dedicated to producing the finest edged weapons of the day. The medium weight saber we are offering here possesses excellent cutting and slashing capabilities yet still remains useful for a thrust. In appearance, it very closely resembles the U.S. 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, but in actuality is a far more effective and durable weapon. The moderately curved blade is forged out of 1050 Carbon Steel and features a long, wide fuller and a very sharp, practical point. The grip is equally well made. It’s wrapped in black leather and strongly protected by a stout, brass three bar hilt. The whole package comes with a heavy duty polished steel scabbard with dual rings so it can be easily attached to your baldric or sword belt.

1796 LIGHT CAVALRY SABER

This saber was widely used by the British and their Prussian allies under General Blucher in the Battle of Waterloo. The blade’s profile was derived from the ferocious Indian Talwar and was reviled by the French who strongly protested its use due to the horribly destructive wounds it inflicted. In fact, this saber was so successful as a cutting weapon that the German Cavalry continued to use it right up to the beginning of the Twentieth century! If you want a combat quality saber that will pass the British Proof Test and is fully capable of shearing off arms and even legs with a single blow, this is a must have! It comes fully sharpened with your choice of a wood and leather scabbard with steel mounts and fittings, or an all metal scabbard.

MORO BARONG

The Barong is one of the classic short swords used by the Filipino warriors who prized it for its ability to sever an arm or leg with a single blow! While widely known throughout southeast Asia, it is particularly popular to this day with the Moros of Sulu, Mindanao, and North Borneo. Barongs feature distinctive leaf shaped blades that are quite heavy and measure up to 18" long by 3" wide. They have no guard, and often come with elaborate handles which anchor the heavy sword in the hand and help to

resist centrifugal forces when making a hard chopping or slashing stroke. Since many of us at Cold Steel® are active practitioners of the Filipino Martial Arts, we have a great affinity for the Barong and have tried to interpret it as accurately as possible. The mirror polished blade of our Moro Barong is approximately 18" long by 2 3/4" wide and 1/4" thick at the spine. For maximum strength and effectiveness in battle, it is forged

from 1050 high carbon spring tempered steel and distal tapered to assure perfect balance. Each blade comes fully sharpened and ready to cleave both flesh and bone. The classically shaped, down-turned handle is made from exotic Rosewood, specially selected to match the scabbard in both grain and color.

Small Sword

SMALL SWORD

The advantage of the sword point over the edge became increasingly evident by the end of the 16th century. The Rapier, with its long, elegantly thin profile, which emphasized its point, became the popular choice in civilian self-defense. It was, however, a somewhat unwieldy weapon, especially when it was used in narrow, crowded streets and alleyways. Eventually a more sophisticated, shorter and lighter version emerged that by the end of the 17th century, had evolved into an entirely new weapon, the Small Sword. Civilians carried it for as long as swords remained an integral part of fashionable dress. Its primary advantage was its stiff, lightweight blade which was forged in a triangular cross section. It was a highly lethal weapon, ideal for thrusting, and hung conveniently from a sash, baldric, or belt. The hilt (compared to the Rapier’s) was simple and smartly functional, consisting of no more than an elliptical plate, or two shells and a light knuckle guard. The Cold Steel® Small Sword duplicates the original model in weight, balance, triangular cross section, and deadly sharp point, but uses modern materials like 1050 high carbon blade steel, heat treated to a tough spring temper. The hilt features two shells with functional finger loops and a light, but strong, knuckle guard. Perfectly balanced and weighing only 22 ounces, the Small Sword comes complete with an attractive leather scabbard that features an intricately decorated throat and chape.

NAVAL DIRK

During the golden age of sail, the Naval Dirk was a common sight in port town streets or on the windswept quarterdecks of a British Man of War. Worn daily by young midshipmen and officers alike, it was often beautifully made and richly decorated. It was never simply a fashion accessory though; it was a very dangerous and lethal weapon. At sea, it made for a very effective slashing or stabbing tool that could be used independently or in combination with a cutlass, sword or saber. Our interpretation of this classic shipboard weapon features a 161/2", double edged, 1050 high carbon steel blade with a wide fuller and a thick spine for strength. To protect one’s fingers and to serve as an aid in parrying, it comes with a generous solid brass cross guard. The traditionally styled polished black horn grip is attractively ornamented with a brass pommel and matching spacers. Handsomely crafted and ready for battle, the Cold Steel® Naval Dirk comes complete with a wood lined leather scabbard. The scabbard includes a decorative brass throat and chape as well as a carrying ring.

VIKING SWORD

The typical Viking sword of the 9 and 10 centuries featured a long wide blade with a broad central fuller and two keen edges. The preferred stroke was a hard slash or chopping blow, so the point was fairly rounded but just acute enough to be useful for thrusting. A simple guard with forward curving quillions was utilized and combined with a utilitarian wooden handle that was covered with leather, bone, or even cast in brass. What really made the Viking Sword so distinctively recognizable from its contemporaries was its heavy 5 lobed pommel used to balance the long blade. Our sword has features in common with its historical counterpart. It has a double edged blade, hand forged out of high carbon steel and then polished to a brilliant lustre. The wooden handle is covered in leather and is supported by a simple, elegant guard and an equally handsome 5 lobed pommel. Both guard and pommel feature traditional Celtic knot decorative embellishments. To house the keen double edge blade each of our swords is supplied with a wood scabbard covered in black leather and reinforced with a highly polished steel chape and throat.

SCOTTISH DIRK

The Scottish Dirk that most knife enthusiasts are familiar with these days is, more or less, a piece of rubbish— a prop—a costume accessory for stage and screen. It’s declined into a “knife like object” that people hang above their mantles or on the walls of dimly lit, woodpaneled dens. Our version is a modern replica that harkens back to an earlier form, when the dirk was a functioning tool and weapon. The 13" blade is forged to a hard spring temper from 1050 high carbon steel. It’s 11 / 2" wide and comes fully sharpened and battle-ready, prepared to hew down any foe. The attractive Rosewood handle is capped with a contrasting blued-steel guard, bolster and disc-shaped pommel, and an handsome leather scabbard completes the package. The scabbard features an extra wide belt loop with a blued-steel throat and chape. This is the perfect companion piece to complete your Highland ensemble, a real fighting dirk, instead of a useless piece of metal. SPECIFICATIONS :

Scottish Dirk

The traditional weapon of the highland clansman, these swords have sown fear into the hearts of Englishmen for centuries. Our double edged blade, the Broad Sword, is hand forged and beautifully polished with triple fullers. The stout basket hilt is made of blued steel with a black leather handle decoratively wrapped in copper wire. The Back Sword is virtually identical to our Scottish Broad Sword. Instead of a double edge blade, it sports a long single edge with a single fuller that runs almost the full length of the blade. It’s a lively blade that cuts very strongly due to its width and “V” shaped cross section. Both swords will pass the stringent British Proof test and come with a wood and leather scabbard that’s complemented by a blued steel chape and throat. If you’re looking for a very stout, sharp basket hilt sword, one of these will surely fit the bill.

HAND-AND-A-HALF SWORD

We would be hard pressed to think of a more versatile or effective sword than the “Bastard” or “Hand-and-a-Half Sword” we offer here. For a sword of this size, it’s amazingly light and fast and tips the scales at approximately 3 lbs. Its 33 1/2" long blade is quite wide so it can produce deep shearing type cuts yet pointed enough to be effective in a thrusting attack. Its long handle is suitable for both a one or two handed grip and is fashioned out of wood covered in black leather. To balance the long blade we have capped the butt with a beautiful “scent stopper” pommel which can be a lethal weapon in its own right. Every Hand-and-a-Half Sword reflects the highest standards in workmanship and materials and comes fully sharpened and ready for battle! To safely house the blade we have also included a very attractive scabbard made of wood covered with black leather and decoratively finished with a steel throat and chape.

TWO HANDED GREAT SWORD

Our Two Handed Great Sword is the biggest sword we make. But don’t let its size fool you, as there is nothing awkward or clumsy about this awesome sword. Sure it’s big and meant to be carried over the shoulder instead of in a scabbard, but it’s extremely well balanced and easily wielded by people of larger stature and physical strength. Weighing 6 lbs. 13.5 oz. with a 39 7/8" high carbon steel blade, it will make short work of pikemen or swordsmen and will prove equally effective against modern rifle butts and bayonets. To protect the hands from opposing weapons, it features a large guard with side rings plus integral parrying hooks that allow the blade to be shortened for close range slashing and stabbing attacks. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather and is extra long to afford a full two handed grip. What’s more, it’s capped by a heavy steel pommel that helps counter balance its long blade and serves as an effective weapon in its own right. Each sword comes fully sharpened and battle ready and we’re sure you will be thrilled with its fantastic fit and finish. If you’re looking for the ultimate in big performance oriented swords, your search is over.

GROSSE MESSER

Known throughout Germany as the “Big Knife”, the Grosse Messer hails from central and northern Europe where, in far off days of old, noblemen and peasants alike relied on it to protect hearth and home from the ravages of brigands, cut throats, outlaws and other characters of ill repute. Its stout, wide blade and large handle meant it could be wielded in one or both hands and was capable of shearing through chain mail or cutting a man in half with a single strike. Our version of this elegantly simple, effective weapon sports a hand forged blade of 1050 high carbon steel that’s so sharp we have used it to split a telephone book in half, with a single blow! The guard and pommel are made from blued steel and feature rosewood handle scales riveted to the sword’s full tang. For convenience and safety, the Grosse Messer comes with a strong, handsome scabbard crafted from wood and covered in black leather. CHINESE WAR SWORD

There are few swords in the world that are more intimidating or more effective than the two handed Chinese War Sword. For centuries it has been wielded by both peasants and soldiers alike with devastating results. Its huge wide blade will shear through armor as if it were butter, not to mention mere flesh and bone. There is nothing clumsy or awkward about this sword. Its 14 1/2" cord wrapped grip, “S” shaped guard, and steel ring shaped pommel all work in concert to make it a well balanced weapon that’s fast and extremely agile. The Chinese War Sword comes fully sharpened and is protected by a stunning, heavy leather scabbard of exceptional workmanship. We are convinced you will be more than delighted with the sword’s fit, finish, materials, and– above all–performance!

GIM SWORD

There are two basic types of straight bladed swords used in China. One is fairly long and heavy known as the Wu Jian or “Martial Sword”. The other is substantially lighter and called a Wen Jian or “Scholar’s Sword” and was primarily carried for personal self defense. After studying books and video tapes on the history and use of both weapons, we have decided to make our own battle worthy Gim (Wu Jian) for serious collectors and practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts. The traditionally styled guard and pommel are cast out of thick sturdy brass and fit snugly on a stout Rosewood handle that is both highly decorative as well as functional. The Gim Sword comes with an excellent wood scabbard with brass throat, chape and sword rings and can be worn suspended from the belt or slung over the shoulder. SPECIFICATIONS :

SWORD CANES

We have been intrigued with the potential of sword canes ever since Major Morris Wright used one to grievously injure Jim Bowie in their famous fight on the Vidalia Sand Bar so many years ago. You see, there is no denying that a sword cane is an uncommonly handy weapon that can be put into action with lightning speed. The blades on our sword canes are 24" long and have an overall reach of 31" when you include the head and handle. For maximum effectiveness, we have given our sword canes a stiff cruciform (4 sided) cross section and a wickedly sharp point. There are few weapons that can be put into action faster than a sword cane. When your life is threatened, the sword cane is already in your hand. Just press the spring loaded release button to disengage the lock and give a firm tug and your blade will literally leap into your hand!

Skull Head Sword Cane

NEW “SKULL HEAD” STYLE

RUBBER TRAINING KNIVES

Now you can practice with some of our most popular knife designs, in relative safety, with our rubber training knives. We have rubber training versions of our Peace Keeper™ I, the R1 Military Classic, Recon Tanto, and the Black Bear Classic. Each has been carefully fashioned to look as realistic as possible so they can be effectively used in solo practice, training drills, disarm drills, and demonstrations and any other activity where you want a reasonably close approximation of realism but not the extreme danger and risk associated with an actual knife. The Santoprene rubber blades are soft enough to prevent the likelihood of most bodily injury. They do however, have a level of firmness that might cause injury to the face or the eyes, so it is recommended that appropriate eye protection or a fencing mask is utilized at all times when using a Cold Steel® rubber training knife.

Bob Koga began his martial arts career at an early age beginning with Judo at 12 and moving on to wrestling in high school. After graduation Bob joined the Air Force and, while stationed in Japan, he resumed his Judo training as well as studying Jiu Jitsu, Jo-do and Akido. After finishing his stint in the Air Force, Bob moved to Los Angeles where he joined the LAPD and served with great distinction for 25 years. During his tenure with the LAPD, Bob became widely recognized as an outspoken proponent of the straight baton as opposed to the PR24® or side handle baton (currently popular in departments across the land). Upon retirement, Bob launched a second career as a police trainer who specialized in teaching officers how to control and subdue violent offenders using empty hands as well as with the famous Koga Straight Baton. In the course of his career Bob witnessed and participated in many street fights and violent altercations. These experiences taught him that there was a real need for a small, light, easily concealed self-defense tool that could bridge the gap between using empty hands and the more dangerous baton. These insights led him to create the Koga SD1. Made of virtually unbreak-

able plastic, the SD1 can increase the ability of the average person to defend himself several times over. With proper training, it can function as a fantastic aid in leverage when obtaining joint locks or submission holds. But where it really shines is as an intermediate impact tool. You see, police and civilians alike face a perplexing dilemma when contemplating employing fist or baton blows. Blows struck with the fist may be too weak, or worse, result in a broken hand, while blows struck with a baton may be too powerful resulting in grave injury or even death. The SD1 however, solves this problem, neatly bridging the gap by concentrating and magnifying the effect of hand blows while minimizing the likelihood of permanent injury or death. If you’re looking to expand your continuum of force options in a self-defense situation, we heartily suggest you buy Bob Koga a Koga SD1.

Hundreds of years ago, the Japanese discovered a simple truth; that to become a good swordsman you’ll have to practice, a great deal. To become a great swordsman you’ll have to practice with a “live blade”. And during the period between ‘good’ and ‘great’, you should spend your time building your skills and confidence enough to wield a razor sharp Katana safely and effectively. To accomplish this, the Japanese relied on a simple wooden sword called a “Bokken” for much of their training. It was made from the super tough wood of the Japanese Green Oak tree, a wood they called Kashi. The swords produced from this wood had the advantage of replicating the size, weight and feel of a steel sword, while minimizing the possibility of causing grievous or permanent injury to those who used it. Authentic Kashi wood Bokkens are still used today, but are becoming quite costly. They also have the disadvantages, being made of wood, that they may rot, crack split or splinter. Cold Steel’s solution to these dilemmas was to design a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements. Our Bokken is made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicates a real Katana in length, size, weight and feel. And while it is not quite as rigid as wood, it has the advantage of being virtually unbreakable as well as remarkably stiff and cut resistant. And, when you’re ready for a “live blade”, your Bokken is still a great candidate as a “last ditch” hide out weapon that can be hidden just about anywhere inside or outside your house.

Ron Balicki will take you through a comprehensive look at the Indonesian and Filipino art of “The Fighting Sarong”. To date this art is relatively unknown to the world. Ron has trained in Sarong fighting for over 20 years and is sharing his vast knowledge with you today. You will learn how to use the sarong against an attacker who comes at you with punches, kicks and grappling. Learn what to do if your opponent tries to counter you or grab onto your sarong. Ron will also teach you how to use the sarong to defend yourself against a knife. In this series you will also get a special section taught by Martial Arts legend Guro Dan Inosanto.

WARRIOR’S EDGE DVD COLLECTION EDGED WEAPONS TRAINING DVD SERIES

I am not enamored with the saying: “If you get in a knife fight, expect to be cut.” That saying condemns even a highly skilled knife fighter to be wounded, disfigured, disabled or even killed if ever forced to put his training with a blade to the test. This is why I have spent an enormous amount of time in full contact sparring with my training partners to develop a knife fighting method that allows the properly trained fighter to vanquish his enemy with minimal risk of being cut or stabbed in the process. I have borrowed heavily from Western Fencing, and Filipino Martial Arts, including Lameco Escrima, Japanese Ken Jitsu, and Western Boxing as well. I have even added techniques and methods that are entirely my own. The result of this effort is a knife fighting method which stresses the avoidance of close range in favor of long range techniques aided by footwork, rhythm, timing, speed and superior tactics and strategy. Recognizing that many of my customers can’t attend our seminars on this subject, I have condensed our basic, 6 volume course into a set of 3 DVD’s (two volumes on each disc) so you can now study and train in the comfort and convenience of your own home. What’s more, I guarantee that if you study them faithfully and practice diligently with a training partner you will gain the skill and ability necessary to give you a huge advantage if ever forced to defend your life or a loved one’s with a fighting knife. The Sarong is one of the most universally popular items of dress on the planet. Widely worn in both hemispheres, it’s best known in the east, where it is common everyday attire from India to the Philippines. Its popularity endures because it’s simple and versatile. Cotton, or some other light strong cloth, is strongly sewn into a long wide tube. This tube can then be wrapped or folded around the body in a wide variety of fashions to suit the needs of both sexes. Sarongs aren’t just ordinary items of clothing though, they’re blankets, sunshades, cloaks, backpacks, and a formidable self-defense tool as well. The Cold Steel ® Sarong is made from 100% cotton with a traditional eastern motif that is sure to delight you and provide years of enjoyment.

“Fighting with the Saber and Cutlass” is really not for people who are only interested in gaining dexterity in sport fencing or to learn the superficial choreographic techniques used for stage and screen. There are plenty of resources available on the market for learning those skills. This DVD set is designed as a serious, straightforward, and focused course dealing solely with the combative use of the saber and cutlass. The series begins by illustrating how to properly oppose an opponent who is armed with a weapon that is similar to your own. This is the best way to build the necessary foundation of skills, techniques, and eye-hand coordination that will allow you to oppose a wide spectrum of adversaries who are armed with all kinds of street weapons. After learning and refining these basic skills you will be ready to progress to the seldom taught subjects of infighting, grappling, and brawling with a saber. NIGHTSHADE™ SERIES

Black as a moonless night, silent as the grave, and totally undetectable…these are the qualities that make up our new lightweight Nightshade™ series. Most are detailed reproductions of existing Cold Steel® favorites and some are new designs representing the newest trends in high-tech, covert construction. Made from Grivory™— the latest in fiberglass reinforced plastic, and stronger than even the super tough Zytel® we have used in earlier models— they are UV and heat stabilized, making them impervious to the elements.

NEW FOR 2005

One of the most unique features of these knives is their handles. They are made from deeply checkered Kraton® that has been molded directly to the blade tangs. The use of Kraton in knife handles is a Cold Steel® innovation that dates back to the early 1980’s. It has been readily copied by most of our competitors because it offers a superior, slightly tacky, gripping surface that is unaffected by heat, cold, or moisture. It never rusts, warps, cracks or splits even in the most extreme environments. Our Nightshade™ knives are light enough to be tied, tucked, or taped just about

anywhere on one’s person. And, since they are impervious to heat, cold, moisture and extreme weather they are a natural to hide both inside and outside of your house. They can be hidden virtually everywhere from the hedges and flowerpots in your yard, to the refrigerator, bookshelves, and closets in your house. Keep one in every room of the house, from the laundry room to the bathroom shower! With violent home invasions on the rise a strategically placed Nightshade™ knife could save the day, and even your life.

TAKE AIM & FIRE...

BIG BORE™ BLOWGUNS

The blowgun or blowpipe has a long history that spans the globe. Many authorities believe it was first invented in Malaysia where it migrated through the Malaysian and Indonesian archipelago’s finding its way to the Philippines and as far north as Japan. The blowgun, however, was not just a southeastern weapon; it also surfaced in the western hemisphere in the jungles of South and Central America, moving as far north as the southeastern United States. Blowguns were originally invented to serve as a hunting weapon. They were used to bag small animals and birds, with small stones or hardened clay pellets being used for ammunition. Eventually, most hunters discovered that they could take much larger animals by the use of thin wooden darts that were laced with lethal poisons. The poison was derived from the sap of specially cultivated vines. In the early 1960’s and ’70’s, blowguns began to gain a small foothold in the United States. During this period, the Jivaro Blowgun Company ran a myriad of small advertisements for their .38 caliber blowgun. These were featured in the back of many adventure, gun and survival magazines. Eventually, in the late 1980’s they faded away. But the mystique of the blowgun itself did not fade away. Instead, a number of companies quickly jumped into the vacuum that was created by Jivaro’s demise, and by the early 90’s, the market was flooded with a horde of cheap, poorly constructed blowguns. Most were sold as novelty items with inefficient, short, 2 and 3 foot tubes made of paper-thin aluminum and firing an insipid .40 caliber dart. The only exception was the J.R. Stupero Company and their successor the J.W. McFarlin Company which sold an authentic hunting grade blowgun that was made of thick, strong Aluminum and was capable of propelling a heavy .625 Magnum dart. In 1983, Cold Steel’s® President, Lynn C. Thompson, bought the first of the many .625 Magnum blowguns he would eventually own. He became an instant fan and has, over the last two decades, practiced exclusively with it. He has taken it on several hunting trips in the U.S. and has used it on three African Safari’s! When the opportunity to acquire the J.W. Mcfarlin Company arose, Lynn purchased it outright, taking title to all of their trademarks and inventory. Now, after a brief reorganizing period, we hereby inaugurate the birth of our new division; Big Bore™ Blowguns, home of the .625 Magnum.® Big Bore™ Blowguns will specialize in large blowgun calibers like .625 Magnum because

62

BIG BORE™ BLOWGUNS

To shoot our .625 Magnum™, stand in a comfortable, steady position and grip the tube with your dominant hand, positioning it near the mouthpiece. Position your other hand about sixteen to eighteen inches forward. Your elbow should be directly below the gun and the gun should be cradled comfortably and securely in both hands. Now you’re ready to load and shoot. Put a dart in the mouthpiece and press it in until it just barely slips past the antiinhalation ring at the mouthpiece’s end. Now point the gun at your selected target keeping your lips sealed against the mouthpiece and take a big breath through your nose (until your cheeks bulge like a squirrel’s), then exhale suddenly and violently. The idea is to get a giant blast of air behind the dart so it will fly with the maximum velocity and the lowest possible trajectory. they are capable of shooting darts that are 20% faster and three times heavier then our competition. They offer vastly improved killing power compared to smaller, .40 caliber darts. Since we are not interested in selling cheap, shoddy toys, we will concentrate on 4 and 5-foot blowguns. For extra accuracy and range, we sell a two-foot extension as an accessory. Both of the basic models come with a mouthpiece, rubber ferrule, dart quiver, and 36 darts (12 Stun Darts, 12 Mini Broad Head, 6 Hunting Broad Head, and 6 Bamboo). We also sell a 3-inch thick high-density foam target for safer indoor practice. Large caliber blowguns like our .625 Magnum® have an effective range out to 20 yards or more. With practice, a skilled user can hit a two-inch circle at amazing distances, delivering a heavy weight dart. That’s a payload easily capable of penetrating a half-inch sheet of plywood. Accuracy and range like this enable an experienced hunter to take small game like doves, quail, squirrels and rabbits in complete silence without danger of over penetration or errant darts striking livestock or humans in the distance. Shooting a blowgun is great fun. It is an activity that can be enjoyed indoors or out, in sunny or inclement weather. Skill with a blowgun can lead to many inexpensive hunting adventures and stand you in good stead in survival or self-defense situations. Try our new Big Bore .625 Magnum® and you’ll soon find yourself addicted to the fun of shooting the world’s most powerful blowgun!

SPEARS

Our spears make for a unique, and athletic target throwing experience! Like traditional spear heads, ours are heat treated and then drawn to a tough spring temper. This process enables the spear head to flex or bend under impact stresses rather than break. The Assegai, invented by the legendary Zulu king Shaka in the early 1800’s, revolutionized tribal warfare in Southern Africa. Our version is available with your choice of two different shaft lengths! The Boar Spear, is a modern recreation of a design that dates back to the European Renaissance. It is cold forged out of medium carbon SK-5 Steel and, like our other spears, is heat treated to a spring temper. The spear shaft is made from extra stout premium ash. The Samburu Spear, is based on a design used by the Samburu tribe from Kenya’s northern frontier. It’s perhaps the most advanced spear of its type. With this extraordinary spear, warriors routinely dispatch marauding leopards, lions and even firearm toting bandits at unheard of distances.

Samburu Spear

Assegai Short Shaft (#95F)

Unlike most hollow handle survival knives, the Bushman® has no joint or seam between the blade and handle that requires a mechanical fastener. Instead, the Bushman’s® blade and integral handle have been expertly cold forged out of a single piece of 2.5mm thick SK-5 high carbon steel. The resulting knife has been expertly heat treated and tempered to RC54 and, when subjected to factory tests, has withstood over two tons of pressure on its blade/ handle transition! The Mini Bushman® is identical to its big brother in every respect, except it’s approximately 3/4 the size of the original Bushman.® We think its smaller size will make it a natural for stuffing into a rucksack, tackle or tool box, or even your glove compartment. It also makes a great hunting knife as it’s guaranteed to be unbreakable and will prove ideal as a first knife for the new outdoorsman in your family.

POLE A XE

In the 13th and 14th centuries, great strides were being made in the fabrication of body armor. Progressively minded knights were abandoning chain mail in favor of the more effective plate armor. Impervious to sword cuts and all but the most carefully aimed arrows, plate armor was, as we say these days, “the bomb”! But progress sometimes happens quickly and new advances in warfare technology invariably inspire new counter measures and weaponry. In this case, the Pole Axe, with an axe blade at one end and a hammerhead at the other, became the perfect weapon of offense against plate armor. The hammer/axe head, mounted on a 6-foot shaft, could crush the heaviest plate armor and split thick helmets!

Cold Steel’s® modern rendition of the Pole Axe is drop forged out of 1050 high carbon steel. The axe blade and hammerhead are differentially heat treated leaving the “business” ends of the weapon hard, and the body a little softer to absorb shock and resist breaking under impact. The shaft is made of ash and is “flattened” on the sides to resist twisting in the hand. To enhance the weapon’s structural sturdiness and to resist breakage, we have equipped it with a pair of steel langettes. There is little on this planet that can withstand the might of the Pole Axe or the man that wields it.

POLE ARMS

SWISS HALBERD

The Swiss have a reputation of being a nation of riflemen. This is because men of military age are required to keep a battle rifle and ammunition at home. This, however, is a relatively more recent development. For three hundred years, starting in the twelfth century, the Swiss were widely feared for the terrible havoc they could wreck on the battlefield with their infamous Halberd. The Swiss Halberd effectively combined the best attributes of the spear, battle axe, and hook into one devastating piece of weaponry. Traditionally, it was mounted on a 6 to 7 foot ash pole and could pierce the thickest steel armor like it was going through cheesecloth! It could pulverize a heavy shield or helmet as if they were no sturdier than eggshells! A well armored knight could be dragged from his saddle with the Halberd’s beak (pointed hook), and summarily hacked to pieces by a throng of mere peasants. The Cold Steel® Swiss Halberd is almost identical to its historical brethren, except that ours is made out of modern materials. It’s made from 1050 high carbon steel and features the traditional long spike, axe blade and pointed beak or hook, making it a multi-faceted weapon that gives one the option of stabbing, hacking or pulling an opponent. The head is mounted on a thick ash shaft for extended reach and power. The shaft has “flattened” sides making it possible to strike with all your strength without worrying about the handle twisting or rotating in your hand at the moment of impact.

CHINESE HALBERD

The earliest Chinese Halberds traditionally featured short, exceptionally heavy sword blades. These blades were mounted on a stout pole that was made from either wood or metal. It was, perhaps, a limited knowledge of metallurgy, combined with some rather crude manufacturing techniques, that meant the earliest examples weighed thirty pounds or more! And so, consequently, it became a weapon that could only be competently wielded in battle by warriors of large stature and strength. Eventually, technical advances in metallurgy made the production of a lighter Halberd, one that ordinary infantrymen could handle, possible. Our Chinese Halberd is an easy to handle 5 pounds. It’s a handy and effective weapon with a total length of 6 feet. The 1050 high carbon steel blade is fully sharpened and ready to cut down man or beast. A substantial guard and reinforcing collar will adequately protect the forward hand from enemy weaponry, and the sturdy Wax Wood shaft is tough enough to withstand virtually anything. To ensure a better grip, and to keep the hand from slipping when it’s drenched in the blood of one’s enemies, we have wrapped the shaft in cord and capped it with a heavy steel ferrule which aids in balance and is a formidable piece of weaponry in its own right. To protect the Halberd’s blade, a beautifully crafted leather scabbard is included.

TWO HANDED MACHETE

Some big cutting jobs are often best handled by using both hands and that’s where our two handed machete comes into its own. Its long polypropylene handle and tough 1050 carbon steel blade give you the leverage to cut down small trees as well as thick brush and tangled vines. Weighing just under two pounds and measuring 32" in overall length, it’s light and compact enough to lash to your pack and is a natural to stash in your vehicle, boat, or airplane. In a self defense emergency, the Two Handed Machete will also double as a highly effective sword. It’s light enough to be swung with either one or both hands and delivers enough cutting power to lop off heads and dismember limbs.

TWO HANDED MACHETE

MACHETES

The Machete has proven to be the ultimate outdoor and survival tool. It will cut, chop, slash, or smash just about anything you can put in front of it. It can be used to kill both fish and game and will also field dress and prepare them for the table as well. And when you look at its meager cost, it’s got to be one of the best bargains for the money. Cold Steel® Machete blades are made out of SAE 1055 medium carbon steel and are dipped in a special anti-rust solution before having a black, baked-on finish applied. Each Cold Steel® Machete comes with a good, serviceable utility edge that will cut right out of the box and, with just a little work, can be made hair shaving sharp. The handles are designed to provide a comfortable secure grip, yet they resist chipping, cracking or breaking, and will last practically forever.

KUKRI MACHETE

There’s no single edged weapon that we can think of that can out-chop or out-cut a good Kukri. Of course it’s true that the best Kukris, like our LTC and Gurkha models, can be somewhat expensive. While those “thoroughbreds” perform extraordinarily well for the money that they cost, it sometimes seems that what’s required is a good, inexpensive, “workhorse” model. Our Kukri Machete IS that workhorse. It features the distinctive weight-forward balance of our “top-of-the-line” models, and always presents its edge on an angle so it’s guaranteed to “bite” deep with every stroke. This knife, with its included sturdy Cordura sheath, is a solid value—a bargain priced Kukri—ready for long, hard work.

LIGHT MACHETE

HEAVY MACHETE

The heaviest Machete we make (with the exception of the Two Handed model shown on page 67 of this catalog). The blade widens toward the tip for maximum cutting and chopping power.

BOLO MACHETE

Known throughout Asia and Pacific Rim, the Bolo Machete features a “fat” point that shifts its weight forward where it can do the most good when heavy chopping or slashing is called for. As a survival tool, it will open a coconut or chop down a tree with ease.

PANGA MACHETE

This is the standard Machete used throughout the entire African continent. It’s excellent for cutting thick brush and chopping down saplings and small trees.

Perfect for cutting grass, weeds, vines, brush, and briars. This Machete is used frequently in Africa for harvesting corn and other crops.

DOUBLE EDGE MACHETE

Versatile. That, period, paragraph, is the only word to describe this Machete. Perhaps you might keep one edge thin for the light vegetation and the other a little on the thicker side for the heavier stuff. Or keep both edges equally sharp so that when one edge gets dull after heavy use, you can flip it over and keep on going. Two edges beats one every time!

LATIN STYLE MACHETES

Have you been looking for a machete with extra reach and leverage? Perhaps something with a more traditional style blade and handle? Then Cold Steel® has the tool for you! Our Latin Style Machetes are available with either eighteen or twenty four inch blade lengths. With their non-slip, shock absorbing rubber handles, they are perfect in almost any environment from the jungle to the forest or even on the farm. Double Edge Machete Panga Machete

DROP FORGED TOMAHAWKS These superb tomahawks are precision drop forged from medium carbon 5150 steel. Drop forging is, without doubt, the best method of manufacture for any impact weapon, particularly one with a cutting edge. During the forging process a metal ingot is heated almost white hot and then formed into shape in a series of progressive dies. The large steel dies are fixed to enormous compressed air hammers. Each die hammers the hot metal into a gradually more finished shape. The steel is kneaded and compressed into a completely homogenous mass making the grain structure uniform and minimizing gas pockets or other imperfections that can ruin the construction of a hand forged hawk. This is why most good axes, hatchets, and hammers are drop forged. These hawks are differentially heat treated. This means that the cutting edge and hammer face is fully hardened, while the balance is left relatively soft to absorb the shock of striking blows.

It’s an excellent chopper and has a functional hammer poll with a hardened face so you can drive nails, hammer in stakes, and smash or crush just about anything. Best of all it’s extremely lightweight and compact so it’s a cinch to tuck it under your belt or lash it to a pack or shooting bag.

R IFLEMAN’S HAWK

The Rifleman’s Hawk has a functional hexagonal hammer poll designed for serious work, like pounding nails or stakes. Reminiscent of some early American designs, the Rifleman’s Hawk features the “peace pipe” appearance that was commonly used by Native Americans during the last century. In terms of fun and sport, this hawk throws and sticks extremely well. If you want something that hits its target like the proverbial “ton of bricks,” then the Rifleman’s Hawk is for you!

TRAIL HAWK

BATTLE A XE

Our Vietnam Tomahawk is light enough to be carried all day without causing undue fatigue. In combat, this lightness translates into speed; allowing quick changes in direction, even in mid-stroke! The blade of the “hawk” offers a wide, upswept primary edge for tremendous cutting, slashing and chopping potential. The secondary edge on the lower side of the head is specially curved and partially sharpened for both a cutting and hooking attack. When combined with the “V” shaped spike on the back of the hawk head, it is wickedly efficient. It comes complete with a leather sheath in the original oxblood color.

#90VT Vietnam Tomahawk

Our Norse Hawk has a curved cutting edge to facilitate deep, slashing cuts and terminates in two sharp points which are useful in hand-to-hand combat. The bottom point may be used to capture an opponent’s shield, leg, arm, shoulder or neck, momentarily immobilizing or bringing him closer so that he’ll be easier to deal with. The top point may be used to execute direct chops or, with a thrusting motion, to pierce or gouge. The Norse Hawk is like its ancient Viking ancestors; merciless.

#90N Norse Hawk

WAR HAMMER

After the club–the axe is man’s second oldest weapon. It was used throughout antiquity from Egypt to Rome. The Vikings found it practical and it remained in use through the Renaissance. Since we wanted our Battle Axe to be easily wielded with two hands, we have kept its weight down and borrowed the 30" hickory handle and steel langettes that appear on our War Hammer. With these items properly installed and the edge honed to razor sharpness, our Battle Axe will rival the finest weapons of old. It can easily decapitate an enemy or sever an arm or leg with a single blow and, in a pinch, serve to fell a tree or cut firewood as well. (Some assembly is required. Instructions and screws are included).

FRONTIER HAWK

#90F Frontier Hawk

#90RH Rifleman’s Hawk

Conjuring up images of the American frontier from the French and Indian Wars to the settling of the West, the Frontier Hawk is one tough implement and an outstanding performer. Its light weight makes the Frontier Hawk a highly functional camp hatchet, while causing minimal fatigue to wrist, elbow and shoulder. In combat, it can be wielded and recovered quickly after a long stroke. Authentic and effective, this Hawk is superior to anything offered by the competition.

Heavy and perfectly balanced, the Torpedo is a lot of fun for target throwing. The double tapered points slide effortlessly from the hand for a perfect release and offer twice the sticking potential of a conventional throwing knife. What's more, the heavy 2 lb. weight lets you stand way back from the target (20 yards or more) and really “lob them in there” with surprising force. At 15", the Torpedo is the longest throwing knife we know of. Thrown over hand or side-arm, it cuts a wide swath, dramatically increasing the chance of intercepting rising birds or fleeing small game. The Torpedo is made from cold rolled 5150 steel. It is zone heat treated to provide maximum resistance to breakage.

BAD A XE

Like the Special Forces Shovel, the Bad Axe is made of medium carbon steel, over 2mm thick and fully heat treated for strength. The edges of the Bad Axe have been factory honed to a sharp utility edge that can very easily be brought up to razor sharpness without too much effort. The twin edge design offers double the cutting potential. When one edge begins to dull the other is razor sharp. Plus the axe cuts in either direction. It has all the necessary weight for serious chopping, and for target throwing, it’s remarkable! With all its points and cutting surfaces, it will stick in virtually any position. Few other American hardwoods are better suited than Ash for a walking stick as it stands up to continuous use and is tough enough to withstand hard knocks. Every Walkabout XL comes complete with a brass ferrule that protects the stick from cracking or the excessive wear associated with concrete sidewalks and city streets.

And, like all Cold Steel products, it can be relied upon in a pinch. Cast out of thick-walled stainless steel utilizing the lost wax process, it will last a lifetime and serve you well in all of life’s adventures.

WHITE WAX WOOD

The wood from White Wax Wood saplings has been prized in China for thousands of years. It is an ideal material from which to fashion staffs, spear shafts, and walking sticks, because it is tough, hard and flexible and can absorb shock without breaking. We were skeptical about this wood’s reported virtues until we actually torture tested a White Wax Wood Bokken (wooden sword). We beat the living hell out of that sword and it remained unbroken. We were impressed enough to warrant adding Wax Wood to our line. The White Wax Wood Staff is ideal “as is” for use as a virtually unbreakable spear shaft or can be cut down to your own preferred length as a walking, hiking, or training stick. It is available in 6 foot or 4 foot lengths. The White Wax Wood Cane is made to extra stringent standards. This is one crook top cane that can take and deal out a whole lot of punishment. It’s perfect for use anywhere and its crook top will support the heaviest man while making a convenient hook with which to corral wayward livestock or fleeing muggers.
