When bleeding from the top down, it becomes necessary in some cases to remove the wheel cylinder and hold it with the bleeder valve at the top. If the bleeder valve is on the bottom, air is trapped in the wheel cylinder and all you do is pump fluid through the system. If the bleeder valve is on top, this does not occur. WRONG

Suggestion from the Sonerai Newsletter. A bracket can be fabricated of .003 to .090 4130N steel, attached to the usual landing gear leg. If your aircraft is of light or unusual construction, tying it down at fly-ins would be a lot easier using this device. Remember the rule at all EAA fly-ins - all parked aircraft must be tied down to reduce damage to your aircraft and to your adjacent neighbors in the event of high winds.

the heads or the nuts flat. However, if they are to carry any appreciable tension or compression loads, you should have wedges underneath all bolts of this type. This one is shown with the bolt loose for clarity.

This alternate for Piper Strut Fork bolts would be quite acceptable on homebuilt aircraft and would probably require Form 337 from your IA and FAA approval before being used on a type certified airplane. If you remove the original barrel and clevis end, slot strut in plane of major diameter to receive the -3 fork. Weld the -2 fork doubler to the strut along the original barrel slot. Fit the -1 doublers and edge weld entire assembly.

WEDGE WASHERS By C. L. "Bud" McHolland
Some builders have inquired about whether wedges should be placed under the bolt head and nuts for the vertical bolts through the spar. This is an excellent idea as it is in any installation where a bolt must be tightened down on an inclined surface. Make sure you use the material for the wedge washer as they are stout enough to not compress and loosen the bolt. If the bolt carries only shear loads, it may be acceptable to not have the surface under
