Damn Vulnerable Linux is an official free community driven project by IITAC – International Institute for Training, Assessment, and Certification. It is based on the free Damn Small Linux distribution.
Damn Vulnerable Linux is kept simple and small as possible. With no extensive grafical requirements it is even runnable on a low performance machine. With a size of about 150 MB it does even fit on an USB stick – ready to go! Free RAM of 350 MB size is required only to run Damn Vulnerable Linux in memory. Damn Vulnerable Linux is extremely easy to start. Using a free virtual machine such as Xen or the free VMWare Player it can be booted within seconds - independant which platform you are using as base system. Without any need to install a new operating system. And if the system has been crashed – just reset the virtual machine!
Vulnerable Damn Vulnerable Linux has been designed to be as much vulnerable as possible. With many pre-installed vulnerable and exploitable applications it provides the perfect environment to train IT-Security & IT-AntiSecurity missions.
Full-blown Damn Vulnerable Linux has all necessary tools preinstalled. This includes development tools such as GCC, GDB, or Dissy for analysis and exploitation tasks of binary targets. For web exploitation tasks Apache, MySQL, PHP, and the Metasploit Framework is ready to go. Damn Vulnerable Linux provides a graphical user interface with many useful tools – such as FireFox, a PDF reader or a mp3 player. For development training HLA, NASM, Ruby, and Python has been installed. There is much more additional software pre-installed – too much to mention here!
