Dear Partners,

November 13, 2008

We have been so encouraged by our fall! Our back-to-school meal at our house drew 15 students, several of them new in Rennes. The next week at the Barbecue which we did with the GBU (another Christian student group), we welcomed more than 40 people. A Chinese girl who was at the first meal brought four non-Christian Chinese friends who want to participate in our activities. One non-Christian came because she had seen our posters. We are still being contacted by people who have seen our publicity. With these people, we have begun our two emphases for this year, trying to build on our strong points: small groups and evangelistic outreaches. Please pray for these small groups, that each participant would grow in his relationship with God, or start one, that the relationships in the group would be strong and edifying, and that they would all have a desire to share their faith with those around them. -- Laurie with three girls (Solène from last year, Sasha and Sarah, two Americans here for one year), accompanied by Melissa, our new staff girl -- Yannick with the cinediscussion on Monday nights: three non-Christians have come so far, and he wants to keep doing publicity to draw more -- Melissa with Anne, Joanna, and Sophie, who did a summer project together -- Rick with two guys who are continuing from last year, Pierre and Matthieu -- Dan with three guys, Joël, Julien and Jérémie -- Melissa to start a group with the Chinese girls who expressed interest in doing a Discovery Bible study

At the same time, we have begun regular outreaches on campus every Thursday noon. It's exciting to try different tools and to have opportunities to spend time talking with students. For several weeks, Melissa and Dan, who are coordinating this effort, have had us use the “SOULarium", a booklet of photos with which we ask the three questions, 1) Which photo best represents your life? 2) Which photo represents your idea of God? 3) And which photo represents your relationship to God? A strength of this tool is that instead of debating with us like in a traditional questionnaire, by looking at the pictures, they are entering a dialogue with themselves and we gain real

insight on where they are. An example is a guy who chose the photo of a person sleeping lying on a bench in a church to answer question 3, explaining that he attends church every Sunday but he doesn't really listen to what is said. We are also able to invite them to two upcoming outreaches, a Fall Party November 14, and a Thanksgiving meal (to discover this aspect of American culture) on November 26. Three students have come on Thursday noon so far, so please pray that more Christian students would mobilize for approaching students with us on Thursdays, and use these two outreaches to invite their friends. Pray also for good follow-up with students we meet who are interested in knowing more about God. We are grateful for the 26 participants we had at the weekend retreat with the Nantes CCC group October 17-19. The devotional and discussion times on the topic “Body-building” were encouraging for everyone and the fun time helped in deepening relationships and having good discussions. The retreat helped give a dynamic for upcoming activities.

Another subject of praise for us is the deepened cooperation we are having with the GBU group this year. We have decided to do an activity together each month, like the Thanksgiving meal in November, and the Christmas party which will be December 10. We pray this unity in working together will glorify God. We plan and organize, but only God can bring fruit from all the activities, so we are so grateful to you for your prayers. May He bless you also in your ministry where you are. With you to reach students in France,

Laurie
