Chapter 7, lesson 2 When they accepted Dr Black’s invitation to dinner, the guests didn’t think they would be murder suspects at the end of the meal. Here is what happened. Yesterday evening, Rusty the butler welcomed all the guests in at 5 o’clock P.M. Everybody sat down to dinner at 6 o’clock P.M. and they finished their desserts at 8:30 P.M. They left the table at 8:45 P.M. At 9 P.M, Mrs White (the cook), who was looking for her master, found him in the library. The only problem was that he was dead. Fortunately, Captain Lestrad was one of the guests and he led an investigation to find the murderer. He interrogated everybody, including the people working for Dr Black, and was able to point to the guilty person at 2 o’clock A.M. It was Professor Green. Professor Green went to the library in order to rest in a quiet room. He had no idea that he wasn’t the only one to seek privacy. Mrs Green and Dr Black were already there, and they were kissing. When he saw that, the blood rushed to his head and he didn’t stop to think about what he was going to do. He grabbed a candlestick and hit Dr Black on the head. He killed him instantly. He hid the murder weapon but Captain Lestrad found it and he arrested Green who confessed his crime. By Sidney Holmes
