Chapter 1 What does eCatalog do? eCatalog finds all FISC CDM Servers on network and categorizes CD titles or programs in them. Simple drag-n-drop operations let you manage a large number of CD titles. Storing shortcuts to the frequently-used CD titles or files relieves you from repeatedly searching for a specific title among many FISC CDM Servers. eCatalog fully integrates into the Windows environment and resides in My Computer under Desktop. You do not have to learn new tricks. It takes only a few minutes to set up and learn this software. Novices or experts can all find it easy and useful.

Chapter 2 Using eCatalog is like a breeze ♦

Exploring FISC CDM servers

To categorize CD titles or programs, the first step is to locate them. Just 3 doubleclicks bring you to all Storage Servers. After you find the Storage Servers, you can browse the content of these servers to locate the CD title or program you want. 1. Double-click My Computer on Desktop, or run Windows Explorer from the Programs folder in the Start menu. 2. Double-click eCatalog in My Computer. 3. Double-click All Servers in eCatalog, and you will see all the Storage Servers.



Default Folders

Once you install eCatalog, you can see two special folders already in the eCatalog folders – Favorite Titles and Favorite Programs. You can drag-n-drop the most frequently-used CD titles from Servers to the Favorite Titles folder, and frequentlyused files to the Favorite Programs folder. It is easy for later retrieving. Just go to the Favorite Titles. eCatalog saves you a lot of efforts and time in searching for a specific title or managing a large number of CD titles. The concept is simple, and the usage is easy. 4

Categorizing CD titles or files

In eCatalog, you can create two kinds of folders: one for storing links to CD titles, another for storing links to files. Once you create your folders, simply drag-n-drop CD titles or files into different folders for categorizing. To create a folder, either choose File from the main menu or right-click in the eCatalog window. Choose New. You can create “Folder – Shortcut to Shares” or “Folder – Shortcut to Files”. The first one incorporates links to CD titles, the second one to files.



Creating Shortcuts on Desktop

eCatalog has a convenient feature to create shortcuts of FISC CDM Servers or Folders on desktop. When you right-click on a FISC CDM Server or Folder in the eCatalog window, choose “Create Shortcut on Desktop” in the right-click menu to create a shortcut of the item on your desktop. It is a convenient feature for users to put a shortcut of the most frequently-used FISC CDM Server or Folder on desktop.

eCatalog Settings

If you run Windows Explorer to use eCatalog, please choose eCatalog Settings under Tools in the main menu to configure eCatalog.

There are two options. The first option specifies the frequency of re-scanning the network for FISC CDM Servers. The second option specifies whether to pop up a warning if a user tries to map an existing network drive. ♦

Saving Shortcuts Information

eCatalog has a powerful feature – saving the information of eCatalog folders and shortcuts in them. You can save these information into a file with .stg extension and use it in another PC. To use this feature, please run Windows Explorer and enter the eCatalog folder. Choose Tools from the main menu. You can see the menu items as below.

Mapping a network folder to a local drive

You can map a network share in a FISC CDM Server as a local drive letter. To do so, please follow the steps below. 1. Run Windows Explorer, and go to My Computer -> eCatalog. 2. Please choose Tool -> Mapping Titles from the main menu bar. 4. In the pop-up window, choose a local drive letter and a network share to be mapped. 5. Click OK.
