Educational sciences in military virtual simulation: the age of reason

___________________________________________________________ Speaker: ☒ Captain Philippe Lépinard Centre of expertise of the network-centric warfare and of the simulation (CEISIM) [email protected] Bio Speaker : Pilot in the French Army Air Corps (ALAT), Captain Philippe Lépinard holds a PhD in Management Science and a diploma specialized in educational sciences applied to simulation. He served as an assistant to the Manager of the simulation division of the French Army Air Corps Academy and then, in 2013, he joined the centre of expertise of the network-centric warfare and of the simulation (CEISIM) in order to manage a group of users of virtual simulation. Abstract (in english) The technological breaks in the professional simulation field distract the trainers from their single objective: the successful transfert of learning. Indeed, the numerous technologies of simulation in the French army (from serious gaming to full flight simulators) require such a technical know-how that educational sciences applied to simulation are overcome by the constant flood of the most promising technophile speeches. With our lecture, we wish to go back to basics by presenting the latest academic progress in terms of learning through simulation. Thus, we will report on different disciplinary approaches (professional didactics, new information and communication technologies in education, etc.), and also on famous areas, experts in simulation, such as the French army air corps and public health. The aim of this explanation is to prove that the successful use of simulation by the French Army won’t be achieved without a real awareness of the importance of didactic knowledge and teaching skills, both able to guarantee adequate and reflexive use of simulation technologies.
