A Glance on the Embroidery Project: The project was begun in 1999,when the social worker service center here was opened. It is a small attempt to assist women to earn a little money for their families since often are the “bread winners “as their husbands are unemployed or only obtain causal laborer from time to time; this is particularly the case since the ”second intifada “and the construction of the apartheid wall in early 2000. The aim of the project also goes along with our mission and goal of empowering women, support their independency and productivity; one way in doing so is to providing them with job opportunity beside a source go income education is another way; many young ladies joined the embroidery program as a mean that secure income to cover for their university fees. For all of them, this work gives them back a sense of pride and dignity in themselves. They earned their money not just been handed assistance. It is also an opportunity to bring back, to this time, the great Palestinian heritage of Embroidery on one hand, while on the other hand we planned to utilize the project income in funding as well as sustaining our other relief programs. The social worker takes great care to involve the women in the decisions about color and design. We often receive requests for specific articles; this leads to experimentation and extends the catalogue. We want and hope to assure a market for our products. The goods are not cheap, but each one is handmade and I would say unique as the same paten is never worked in the way even if the same colors are used. If you buy any of these goods you will be helping to keep alive a heritage, but more especially, individual Palestinian Women and their families, here in this Holy Land.
