Jonathan was still in grade school when the baiting, insults and punches began. They made fun of him, his body, his last name (which means “destiny” in French)… Then came the threats: they demanded money, told him they would kill his parents. Though he didn’t know it at the time, Jonathan is not alone. According to a 2010 OECD study, over 20% of children in Europe have experienced bullying in school. Like many children, fear and shame paralyzed him and kept him from speaking out; the adults around him didn’t notice or told him it was just kids being kids. Jonathan felt completely alone. Death seemed like the only solution, the only way out. 72% of Jonathan’s body was burned, he spent three months in an artificial coma and underwent 17 operations. Born in 1960 in northern France, she studied history and political science before writing numerous popular works on Catholic faith and running the religion department for publisher Fleurus. Christine Pedotti co-founded “Le Comité de la jupe” (The Skirt Committee) whose goal is to fight against the discrimination of women within the Catholic Church. Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian’s first writing attempts were feverish sketches of fantasy fiction. Since then, the pen has rarely left her hand. She wrote Tara Duncan between 1987 and 1990, but only found a publisher in 2003, when magic became fashionable thanks to Harry Potter. Tara Duncan’s rights have been sold in 13 languages. Married with two children, Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian lives in Paris.

Anne Plichota: 44 years old, she lives in Strasbourg with her 14-year-old daughter. After studying the Chinese language and culture, she spent some time in Korea and worked in China. She has had several jobs: Chinese teacher, nurse’s aide, public letter writer and librarian.
