How to hash with snow? Here a few ideas…

• Buy powdered paint (as used by little children for "finger painting"). Mixed approx 50/50 with flour makes a good marker. This is readily available in England. However, every shop I have been to in Paris sells the liquid version (that is, the manufacturer adds water), which certainly does not work with flour. (Hint: Anybody going to England can buy several packets of this stuff - it is really cheap). •

Go to Leader Price or Metro and buy a BIG packet of no-name "NESQUICK" chocolate powder. Mixed approx 50/50 with flour makes a good dark brown marker.

• At a hardware store I bought packets of colour that builders use for colouring cement. Quite effective, mxed with flour, but one absolutely HAS to wear two pairs of latex gloves, because the color takes 2 to 3 weeks to go away ! •

If the snow is permanent, use the liquid colour in (1) with added water in a squeeze bottle to mark the trail.

Get sawdust from a sawmill. Many UK hashes use this all year round. Cheap but a bit bulky.

If you have access to a paper shredder, shred coloured paper. Orange or bright yellow or pink work quite well.

I have heard of people using watery tomato sauce in a squeeze bottle; though I've never tried it.
