Jointly Organised by :-

Wye College Wye Kent

Physical Acoustics Group of Institute of Physics (http://www.iop.org/IOP/Groups/PA/) and GAPSUS of Société Français d’Acoustique (http://www.loa.espci.fr/sfa/fr/sfa.htm)

The purpose of this meeting is to review progress, discuss on-going work and to enhance collaboration in all areas of physical acoustics, such as :Transducers Lasers/photo-acoustics Medical Vibration/noise Monitoring

Imaging High power AE Signal processing SAW devices

Sonar/Underwater Environmental Systems Sonochemistry Ultrasonic joining

Process Control NDE Cleaning Audio Modelling

This is the inaugural meeting of what will become an annual joint event. The venues will alternate between a British and French locations. Wye College is the agriculture faculty of Imperial College. It is ideally situate close to Ashford International Railway station making travelling easiest for the French participants. This 3 day meeting hopes to attract presentations from both a number of internationally recognised experts and researchers as well as encouraging submissions from students. Each Group will have 1 invited speaker at each session. For the Physical Acoustics Group of the IOP the invited speakers and their presentations will be :Professor Darryl Almond – “Acoustography, a Novel Ultrasonic Imaging Technique and its Applications”. Dr. Malcolm Povey – “Colloid-Ultrasound Interactions”. Professor Tim Leighton – “The Acoustics of Gas Bubbles in Liquids”. Professor Mike Somekh – “Applying Optical Concepts to Laser Ultrasonic Microscopy”. The Group offers a sponsorship for 5 student delegates to attend and present. The five best extended abstracts submitted before the closing date will be chosen by the Committee to receive free registration and accommodation. Call for papers :In addition to the invited speakers and the sponsored student attendees the Group calls for the submission of presentation proposals via abstracts of not more than 1 side of A4.
