The ISAF Sailing World Cup is a new world-class annual series for Olympic sailing. It is open to the sailing events chosen for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions. The ISAF Sailing World Cup brings together the existing major events on the Olympic sailing circuit, starting in Australia, before moving to the USA and finishing in Europe. Over 3,000 of the world’s leading sailors are expected to compete in the first season of the World Cup. By scoring competitors across all events included in the season, the ISAF Sailing World Cup will offer a definitive guide to the bestof-the-best in the Olympic sailing world.

The SLSA Sailing World Cup is a new world-class annual series for Olympic sailing. It is open to the sailing events chosen the SLSA Racing Committee. The SLSA Sailing World Cup brings together the existing major events on the SL sailing circuit, starting at SYC, before moving to NYC, then FYIC, MBYC, … and finishing at …. Over 200 of the second world’s leading sailors are expected to compete in the first season of the World Cup. By scoring competitors across all events included in the season, the SLSA Sailing World Cup will offer a definitive guide to the best-of-the-best in the SL sailing world.

Main principles • Based on ISAF principles • http://www.sailing.org/isafsailingworldcup.php

• Same scoring system as ISAF SWC adapted to SL • http://www.sailing.org/worldcupscores.php

• Using existing SL Sailing Racing Calendar • http://zatzai.com/calendar/com.php

Main advantages • No need to add new events, new organization, staff, … • No need to manage sailors subscription and complex spreadsheet • The SL Sailing community acts as a whole • Activity and event are fairly shared between clubs • More competition, better motivation • Simple and already possible, we just need to decide it !

How does it work? • In the existing SL Sailing calendar, we choose 21 events per class boat, and declare them as being part of the official SLSA-WC • It already exists more than 200 annual events per class boat: 5 Fizz regattas a week, 4 Tako regattas a week… • The 21 choosen events are selected taking into account 3 TimeZones (eg 7 in each). • For each regattas, we use the usual point system (0.75, 2 …) • Then we apply SLSA WC scoring system (1st: 5 points, 2nd: 4 pts…, 5th: 1 point, 6th …:0 point)

How does it work? • Standings are displayed in participating YC after each event:

- A competitor may not enter more than 10 events - If he does, he doesn’t gain any point, but may influence overall ranking (others) - Best 7 are used for overall ranking - In case of tie - between 2 sailors: Final MATCH RACE - between more than 2 sailors: Final FLEET Regatta

Next step ? • Just decide it! • Could start officially at the next beginning of Sailing season (Q4-2009) and end Q2/Q3 2010 • The « coming soon » (?) 2009 Fizz World Cup could help to validate the principles as described.
