Description of Class: French I will use a variety of activities, material and media to encourage students to develop the four essential language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. Students will learn basic phrases, sentence structure, and grammar skills as well as learn about Francophone culture (from both Francophone Canada and France). Together. we will travel to Quebec and France and use our new skills with locals (through the magic of the internet, no airfare required). Learning a new language can be intimidating, this class aims to make language learning fun and put students at ease in order to create the perfect learning environment. J’espère de vous voir en classe! (I hope to see you in class!) Class Approach:

This class combines theory and practice. Students are expected to complete reading and assignments in order to benefit from hands-on class time. Every class will begin with a review from the previous class, the best way to learn a new language is to practice and reinforce. Goals: • Students will communicate using a number of isolated vocabulary words and phrases. • Students will gain knowledge and understanding of French speaking cultures • Students will make connections and enhance their learning of other disciplines through their study of the French language. • Students consider other points of view as they study concepts in context. • Students will compare their first language and culture with that of French speaking cultures • Students actively search for examples of the influence of the French language and the francophone cultures in their own community as well as others they may visit.
