2002-05 STEERING Power Steering - Mini

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION POWER STEERING PUMP (WITH A/T) Removal & Installation

Remove fan for power steering. Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank and do not reuse. Release hose clamp (1) and intake line. Remove intake line with power steering pump and, while removed, disconnect intake line from power steering pump.

Do not allow any dirt to enter the system. Seal off line connections with plugs. If necessary, remove fan for power steering. Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank. Release plug connector (1) and pull off. Disconnect plug connection (2) in straight direction, otherwise damage may be caused. See Fig. 2 . Release screw (1) and disconnect pressure line. Remove hose clamp (2) and detach return line. During installation, replace hose clamp. See Fig. 7 .

Remove power-steering pump (2) with bracket. See Fig. 5 . When replacing power steering-pump, release nuts (1) on al1 four rubber mounts. Release screws (2) and remove rubber mounts (3). Release nuts (1). During installation, replace self-locking nuts.

If-the diode has already been removed do NOT continue with the following procedure. Necessary preliminary tasks include detaching fuse box in interior. Unwrap adhesive tape (1) from wiring loom to expose diode (4) and connectors (2 and 3). Unplug connectors (2 and 3) from diode (4). Remove and discard diode (4). Reconnect connectors (2 and 3) and rewrap adhesive tape around wiring loom.

Draw hydraulic fluid out of tank. Do not reuse. Release nuts (1). Release nut (2) and remove fastening clamp from supply reservoir. Open hose clips (3) and detach hoses from supply reservoir. During installation, replace hose clamps. Bleed power steering system. See BLEEDING .
