There are four different AIMEs - Air Interface Monitor and Emulator - systems available from Racal Instruments. There are two GPRS systems, one for mobile and one for base stations and similarly for EDGE - one for mobile and one for base stations. GPRS 6103 mobile AIME GPRS 6113 BTS AIME EDGE 6103 mobile AIME EDGE 6113 BTS AIME They are all members of the ProCLAIME series of protocol testers and provide the user with full layer 2 and layer 3 monitoring capability for the Um interface in a GSM based digital radio environment, together with full emulation of a Phase 2 GSM mobile terminal. This important test tool provides the GSM software design engineer with all the facilities needed to monitor, debug and fault find protocol interchanges at layers 2 and 3. The ability for assessment of the integrity of traffic frames across the air interface is also provided. The AIME test systems based on a 6113 Digital Radio BTS Test Set or a 6103 Digital Radio Mobile Test Set as appropriate. A PC software package is provided which controls the instrument via a GPIB / IEEE 488 interface. It provides the user with a script editing facility to log and display all the layer 2 and 3 signaling exchanges with frame and time stamps. It also logs all the traffic frames.
