2 RCHA – During the month of October 2 RCHA successfully executed Ex AVENGING GUNNER. The intent during the annual Regimental Exercise was to prepare the Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battery for Op REASSURANCE. The Exercise commenced with a road move and establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at CFB Borden. Dry deployments were then conducted around Steynor and Wasaga Beach, allowing the two x gun troops to practice deployments in built up areas amongst a civilian population. A live 155mm raid was also conducted from Borden to Meaford, which was made more challenging by the accumulation of over 50mm of rain in less than 24hrs. In spite of the bad weather, H-hr was met and rounds went down range, on time and on target. The gunline also welcomed a VIP visit from LGen Rohmer and HCol Massey. HCol Massey graciously accepted the invitation to fire several rounds from the M777. After the Regiment cleared out of Borden and Meaford, they conducted the road move back to CFB Petawawa. For the remainder of the exercise the Bty practiced TC’s Fire Plans leading up to a BC’s Fire Plan on the final day. All told, the Exercise was a great success with over 500 rounds of 155mm fired and the eFP Bty more prepared for its deployment as part of Op REASSURANCE ROTO 9. Also of note during the past month was 2 RCHA’s Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) support to Ex MAPLE STRIKE in Wainwright as well as the completion of several Regimentally run Primary Combat Function (PCF) Courses including OP Det 2IC, Dvr Wheel, HLVW Gun Tow and HUSO.
