SHARING FILMS AND MUSIC ONLINE

TRANSCRIPT: INTERVIEWER: Should you share films and music online? ANDY: There are sites that I have downloaded music from to put on my iPod and I guess I’m kind of for and against it. I’m for it because obviously I take part in it. It’s a really easy way to get music and it’s just nice to have it all in one place and to be able to download whatever you’re interested in. From the other side, from I guess the musicians’ standpoint, I see it as it’s not very fair to the musicians who have worked their butts off to put themselves in a position to make an album or record a CD, and now it’s being given away for free on the Internet. But I can’t really say that because I’m a part of the problem, because it’s just so easy, it’s just right there. And you can download it whenever you want. WOMAN: Well I might surprise you Andy, but, er, I actually, first of all I understand what you’re saying very well. I have three daughters about your age, so they do it, and I benefit from it from time to time, because when they download some nice music and I hear it and say: “oh, that’s very cool can you give that to me?” and I give them an SD card, my memory card which can be read in my car and I end up playing their music when I am in the car; it’s very practical and you’re saving a lot of time. It’s probably not fair, but I’m not convinced it’s such a big problem that they lose that certain portion of their sales on the Internet.
