Finishing Tape Timesaver As I was covering my RANS S-7 using the Poly-Fiber system, I found that by using a drawing compass I could save a lot of time laying out lines for finishing tape. Before using the compass I removed the pivot point and rounded it to a nice round edge, so as not to scratch the fabric. I was able to run the rounded edge along the rib and draw a straight line for one edge of the finishing tape, reversing the compass for the other side. Running the rounded edge along the edge of the elevators, rudder, etc. made a parallel line for aligning the edge tapes. Much easier than using a rule and straightedge. Simple Way to Spin Flanges I enjoyed Kerry Fores’ segments on building a rib. But, there is another way to flare a lightening hole by replacing the fly cutter blade with a 1/4-inch bolt. This is easier to make than multi-size form blocks. EAA Chapter 21 members Don Taylor and Ron Jennings came up with this simple method to spin flanges. Bob Moehlenkamp, EAA 717034
