Statement TDC as Khmer people strongly reject the memorandum signed between the regime of Hun Sen and the Australian Government at September 26, 2014, because this agreement has seriously violated the Geneva Convention of 1951 on the rights of refugees and the conditions necessary and sufficient of the host country. Cambodia is a country known for widespread corruption, repression and violation of the fundamental rights of citizens and the inability of the government of Hun Sen to solve the fundamental social problems: unemployment, widespread poverty, forced evictions extent and instability of the country threatened by the flow of millions of Vietnamese colons. Refugees sold as mere commodities with no consideration to their particular case, one wonders how many of them could confront the terrible fate that would be reserved for them once they arrive in Cambodia? One still remembers the sad fate of 20 Uighur refugees who had seek asylum in Cambodia and were delivered to China by Mr. Hun Sen in 2009 and it is the same for many Montagnards and Khmer Krom who were delivered to Vietnamese government by the regime of Hun sen. In this similar case, Australia not only violates the principles of human rights and the Geneva Convention of 1951 which it is a signatory, but also complicit in a despicable crime. TDC strongly appealed to the respect of the fundamental principles of human rights and those of democracy. We hope that the Australian Government will not fail to end this human trafficking.
