CITY PLANNING ADMINISTRATION

Vision 2030 – A World-class Stockholm • The Vision s three themes comprise the longterm future image of Stockholm • Reflects Stockholm s current defenition of sustainable development • In line with the the long-term visions and goals of other stakeholders

The City Plan shows how Stockholm s vision can be reached in terms of urban development

…expanding the inner city beyond its historic borders

1913 snitt

From handicraft to industrial production

100 years of development

1910 The industrial city 374 300 inhabitants

1945 The tram city 685 900 inhabitants

1960 The metro city 808 600 inhabitants

1975 The metro city 665 200 inhabitants

In the 20th century Stockholm growed quickly as shown in these maps. One can identify certain stages of growth, defined by the transport system, which made it possible to move to suburbs. The first period relied mainly on railways, then trams and from 1950 the metro system. Later on of course the automobile got greater importance.

2000-2010 The metro city 850 000 inhabitants

The suburban structure of the outer parts of Stockholm shows a typical pattern of carefully planned neighbourhoods along the metro lines, like pearls on a string.

2025 Stockholm will have 1 000 000 inhabitants
