Introduction Developed by Dmailer exclusively for LaCie, the revolutionary LaCieSync software allows you to easily and securely (using AES 128-bit encryption) synchronize your LaCie external mobile device* and backup all of your personal files (productivity documents, photos, audio and video files, etc.), computer settings (Internet Explorer or Firefox favorites, wallpaper) and Outlook® data (emails, attachments, folders, calendar, contacts, tasks, notes) at any time, from any computer in the world. Now you can couple the high performance of LaCie external mobile devices with this advanced synchronization and Outlook® or Outlook® Express data management software. LaCieSync software revolutionizes personal productivity by turning any computer into your own – in the office, at home or at school, in an internet cafe and beyond.

Getting Started Step 1: Synchronize your LaCie external mobile device and your computer with LaCieSync Connect your LaCie external mobile device to your computer and double-click the LaCieSync icon. LaCieSync will now guide you through configuration for first time use. a. Select Your Language Select the language in which you want to install the software: English (default), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, Traditional or Simplified Chinese. Note: Once a language is chosen, LaCieSync will NOT allow you to change it unless you opens a new profile. b. Create Your Profile

LaCieSync will ask you to create a new profile with a name and a personal password for data protection. Please remember this password. Due to file protection security, LaCieSync will ask you for your password each time you try to open this profile. You also have the option to synchronize multiple computers by creating different profile names (ex: home, business, etc.). Note: If you have forgotten your personal password, you‘ll have to start this set up process and synchronize your profile data again

c. Select the Data You Want to Synchronize Specify which kind of data you would like to synchronize in the option panel: Email – Select your email application (Outlook, Outlook Express, or None) and click Advanced Settings to choose which data you want to synchronize. Files – Select files you would like to synchronize (All files, Media, Office or None) and click Advanced Settings to choose which folders/files you want to synchronize. Favorites – Select the Internet Favorites links you want to take with you on your LaCie external mobile device (Internet Explorer, Firefox or none) Settings – ❖ Wallpaper – Bring your own desktop wallpaper with you and place it temporarily on any computer you work with. ❖ Automatic Synchronization – Start synchronization automatically when you launch LaCieSync to update your data. note: Do not check the automatic synchronization option if you will be primarily using the backup feature and not synchronization. The available disk space remaining on your LaCie External Mobile Device BEFORE synchronization is displayed on the bottom right side of the main option screen. Note: If you don’t have enough disk space available to synchronize the selected items on your mobile device, LaCieSync will ask you to change your selection and synchronize again.

When you have made your selections, click the Next button. Synchronization of your personal files (productivity documents, photos, audio and video files, etc), Outlook or Outlook Express data (emails, attachments, calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks) and PC settings (Internet favorites, wallpapers) will start automatically.

Synchronization

Please be patient, this operation can take a while, especially during the first synchronization. The progress bar indicates what is currently happening and the different stages of this process. You can click on the “Minimize to system tray” button during the synchronization process. This will allow you to save some space on your desktop (if you want to work with a document) while LaCieSync is synchronizing. At the end of this operation, you can open the main LaCieSync interface to verify that all the documents and Outlook or Outlook Express data you’ve selected are now available on your LaCie external mobile device. You can modify your synchronization at any time by clicking on Options.

This icon will stop working at the end of the synchronization process. Click on this icon to open LaCieSync once synchronization is complete.

Step 2: View and edit your personal files and Outlook or Outlook Express data from a remote computer a. Connect your LaCie external mobile device to any computer and launch LaCieSync, just as you did on your main computer by double-clicking on the LaCieSync icon. b. Select your profile and enter your password. The LaCieSync main interface opens. Email View, edit, modify, send and receive your email as if you’re still working on your main computer with LaCieSync. ❖ Create an Email – Click the New button as you do with your email application. ❖ Send an Email – Click the Send button as you did with your email application and enter your name and email. ❖ Receive an Email – Select Incoming Email Settings from the Options menu and configure your email account. Contacts View, edit, modify and create your contacts as you do with your email application: ❖ Create a Contact – Click the New button as you do with your email application. ❖ Display only one category – Click on the “Categories” menu and select category you would like to display. You can also arrange your contacts by Full Name, Company, Phone, etc., by clicking on the titles.

Calendar View, edit, modify and create meetings on your calendar as you do with your email application: ❖ Open a meeting – Click on the timeline for the meeting as you would do with your email application. ❖ Create a meeting – Click the New button and set your meeting as you do with your email application. Tasks View, edit, modify and create a Task as you do with your email application: ❖ Open a Task – Click on it as you do with your email application. ❖ Create a Task – Click the New button and set your task as you do with your email application. You can also arrange your tasks by subject, start time and deadline.

LaCieSync Getting Started Guide Favorites View, edit, modify and create your internet favorites links (from Internet Explorer or Firefox) as you do on your own computer. To securely browse on a remote computer – Click on Activate Secure Browsing. It will export your internet favorites onto the current Windows Explorer and will allow you to surf the web without leaving any cookies or file history on the host computer. These links will automatically disappear when you close LaCieSync and unplug your LaCie external mobile device. Favorites

You can now work on your documents and Outlook or Outlook Express data as you normally would (view, edit, erase, save, etc.). Access and edit your personal files and Outlook or Outlook Express data: send emails with or without attachments, add a meeting in your calendar, change a contact, display your notes and tasks, edit a Word or Excel document and even access your Internet favorites in a cybercafé, on a friend’s laptop, or in a colleague’s office — personal productivity is a snap with LaCieSync. Note: All the modifications have been stored on your LaCie external mobile device. Because LaCieSync runs from the LaCie external mobile device itself, absolutely NO traces or files will be left on a host computer.

Step 3: Return home, connect your LaCie external mobile device to your main computer and synchronize your changes with LaCieSync a. Connect your LaCie external mobile device to your main computer and launch LaCieSync by double-clicking on the LaCieSync icon. b. Select your profile and enter your password. LaCieSync automatically synchronizes all your modifications. Please be patient, this operation can be lengthy. The progress bar indicates what’s currently happening and the different stages of this process. All the modifications done in Step 2 will now be applied onto your main computer’s Outlook as if you had never left. You’re done, it’s that simple!

Setting Up and Using Email Outgoing Mail Settings To set outgoing email settings: You can easily set your outgoing email settings before sending your email. It will allow you to send email without entering your settings each time. 1. On the main interface, click on Options. 2. Select outgoing email settings. 3. Enter the following data:

❖ Sender name – your name (e.g. John Smith) ❖ Sender address – your email address (e.g. [email protected] 4. Click on OK. LaCieSync will use its embedded server to send your email. Advanced Users You can also use your email provider’s SMTP server to send your email. To do so, click on advanced settings and fill in the required data.

Incoming Mail Settings To set incoming email settings: You can easily set your incoming email settings before receiving your email. Indeed it will allow you to receive email without entering your settings each time. 1. Click on Options. 2. Select the Incoming email settings. 3. Click Add. 4. Enter the following data:

❖ Account name: e .g. Personal ❖ Incoming mail server: e .g. pop.something.com (Provided by your ISP - Internet Service Provider) ❖ User name: the name used before @ on your email ❖ Password: the password used to open your email account. 5. Click OK. LaCieSync is now ready to receive email coming from your account. Advanced User Steps If your incoming email server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) click on Advanced Settings and check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”. You can add several email accounts. You should have as many folders as email accounts as it will be easier for you to find an email quickly. To create a new folder on the inbox, select the inbox and right-click on new folder and name the folder. To target email from a specific account to be received in this folder, configure your email setting as follows: 1. Click on Advanced Settings. 2. Click on Browse. 3. Select the folder and click on OK to validate it.

LaCieSync Getting Started Guide To create a new email: Select the email panel and click on New as you would do with your regular email client (Outlook/Outlook Express). Enter the following data and click Send: ❖ To: Enter your recipient’s email address or click on add and select the contact. ❖ Subject ❖ Message You can also add an attachment. note: You can only add an attachment which is not synchronized within LaCieSync due to the encryption applied to all data within LaCieSync.

My Documents To edit and save a file: Open the “My Documents” panel and click on the document you want to edit. When you modify a document from LaCieSync while you are working on a remote computer, you just need to click on Save (as you do on your computer) and LaCieSync will update it when you close the application. However, if you would like to save a document with another name you need to save it on your LaCie external mobile device and add it within the LaCieSync database by doing following : 1. Open LaCieSync. 2. Select document’s path. 3. Select the folder. 4. Click the Add button and select the file you want to add. note: Please note that every file opened through LaCieSync will be saved on a folder called “temp.” Files in the “temp” folder will be erased when you close LaCieSync. When you will close the application, this data will automatically be sent into the encrypted database with all the modifications you made and erase all data which was not previously synchronized.
