Thanksgiving was not an entirely new concept for the Pilgrims or the ……………….. The Pilgrims had held an annual Thansgiving feast in ……………….. that was a religious ……………….. The American Indians actually held several harvest festivals throughout the year. But that was the first Thanksgiving ……………………. that they had together. That happened some time between September 21st and November 11th ………... Well, Captain Miles Standish the leader of the Pilgrims, invited Chief Massassoit the Wampanoag leaders and their immediate ………………… to join them for the Thanksgiving celebration. The Pilgrims weren’t quite prepared for the ……. Wampanoags that showed up. Massasoit, the Chief, sent his men to get more food so that everybody could eat

Their first Thanksgiving lasted …. whole days. That was cool because two groups with little in common came together and formed a ……………. and friendship agreement. Part of that agreement allowed the Pilgrims to build their new ………….. of Plymouth. Sadly the American Indian and Pilgrim ……………… didn’t last forever. As …………. settlers came to America, they didn’t need the help as much as the Pilgrims did. The language, cultural and religious …………………… between the 2 peoples were pretty major and the American Indians and the European settlers began to distrust one another. Eventually the new Americans ……………… most of the Native Americans off their lands. There are still some Wampanoag people living in Massachusets, not that that matters much.
