13th International Blood-Brain Barrier Symposium Zurich 2010 Signalling at the blood-brain and blood-tumour barriers September 2 - 4 , 2010

 

Dear Colleagues, We would like to invite you to the 13th International Symposium on "Signalling at the Blood-Brain and Blood-Tumour Barriers" which will be held at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland on September 2nd - 4th 2010. The blood-brain and blood-cerebrospinal fluid barriers (BBB) tightly regulate the exchange of molecules and cells between the circulation and the central nervous system (CNS) and its functional integrity is crucial for neuronal homeostasis: a wide variety of neurological diseases are associated with a deregulated or defective BBB. The aim of this International Meeting is to gather scientists from academia and industry, discuss the latest developments in BBB research and forge new collaborations. Previous meetings have been held with great success in Potsdam (Germany), Cambridge (UK), Muenster (Germany), Szeged (Hungary), Salzburg (Austria), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and London (UK). targeting of the brain, cell passage across the BBB and also the very latest on in vivo and in vitro BBB models. An additional focus of the 2010 conference will be research on nutrient transporters of the BBB and on vesicular transport. In addition, proteins and signalling pathways implicated in the development of brain tumours and neoangiogenesis will be addressed. During each session there will be presentations from eminent scientists that have recently made major contributions to the field. A significant proportion of lectures will be chosen from proposed abstracts. We therefore invite scientists from academia and industry to submit abstracts of their latest research to stimulate a vibrant exchange of opinions and ideas. In particular, we strongly encourage submission and participation from younger scientists. Past BBB symposiums have generated many strong collaborations and friendships and we will assemble a scientific and social program that continues this inspiring tradition.
