The scoring system The Eurofestival, the only FIAP-patronised international festival in which the jury is composed of authors present, has developed over the years a special method of scoring. For this 20th edition, we will be following the system which was found to be quite satisfactory at the Thionville and Hayange Eurofestivals. Quite simply, two scores will be given to each diaporama: the first immediately after the projection and thus before the jury’s discussions, the second after the discussions. Why two scores ?

At the beginning of the year, we produced this rather special greeting card... And look at us now! The vertiginous slope has been conquered, numerous obstacles have been overcome, the team has held together tightly and today the Eurofestival 2000 is a reality. We hope that with the help of all the authors and friends present we will cover without hindrance the last few steps that take us to the summit and that this 20th Edition will leave each of you with good memories. We heartily thank all the authors, assistants and partners who put their confidence in us and accompanied us on this ascent.

To benefit from the advantages of each of the two methods: before the discussions, the score corresponds to a “heat of the moment” impression of the sequences viewed; the score given after the discussions allows certain elements which were not perceived during the projection (usually related to linguistic problems) to be taken into consideration. Many authors are present, several nationalities are represented, the translators are there: here is the opportunity to judge the sequences in the light of all the information brought out during the debates. But the first score is also important, for it reflects the ini-

tial impact that was felt (or not) at the time of projection. How does it work ? Following the projection of a block of sequences, we will collect the score sheets – don’t forget to mark your name. The scores will be entered into the computer. This operation will be repeated after the discussions. After the exclusion of the highest and lowest scores, and scores from authors who have not participated at every session, and after several confirmatory tests, a classification list based on the average of the two scores will be produced and distributed to you on the Sunday morning. It will then be up to you to establish the final classification according to your own criteria. Effectively, a purely mathematical classification does not necessarily correspond to the prize list you want to see after having viewed all the sequences in the competition.

The culprits The pre-selections (acceptances) were decided by the international jury, which has also established its own official list of prize winners, to be announced on Sunday at midday. The jury members were Georg Aigner, Willy Duhameau, Matthias Pfister, Jean-Paul Guibal (from right to left)
