Waharday, Belgium, January 4th 1945 Story : At the beginning of January 1945, The 53rd (Welsh) Division arrives in the Hotton sector in the Ardennes To help the American troops and participate in the full scale counter attack. The German units, although weakened, are still formidable and most of the Tommies have not received their winter equipment. So, on January 4th, the 1/5th Welsh Regiment fails to take the village of Waharday. The kaki uniforms make the attackers easy targets and some panzers throw back the Welsh infantry men, their heavy weapons being stuck in the deep snow.

English units :  Elements from the 1/5th Welsh Regiment 9 Rifle + 3 Piat + 3 Two inches Mortar 1 Three inches Mortar + 1 Platoon leader

German units :  Elements from the 116. Panzer 4 Panzergrenadier + 2 MG Crew 1 8.1cm Mortar + 1 Platoon leader 2 Fortified building 2 Panzer IV

Scenario rules : Use the tactical rules. The English player sets up first and start first. The battlefield consists of HI (Hills), TO (Town), LW (Light woods), CL (Clear). German Headquarters TO1 TO2 CL3 LW4 LW5 LW6 HI7 LW8 LW9 English Headquarters 1.

Supply Each player receives 20 points at start. The English player receives 3 supply dices each turn and the German player 2 supply dices.

Special cards Use the tactical rules (Beachhead to Berlin p77 to p86) for choosing the special cards. Special cards : Each player has a 36 special cards deck (2 identical cards max.) of his own choice. Each player draws 1 free card each turn with the possibility of buying only one other card at the cost of 6 supply points). Each player takes randomly 5 special cards in this deck before the game begins.

Winter camouflage All English units have a –1 Inf penalty due to the German units’ winter camouflage.

Others No refits are allowed.

Set up and reinforcements :

English player: The 1/5th Welsh Regiment starts in HI7, LW8, LW9 or the English Headquarters. German player: The elements of the 116. Panzer (except the two panzers) start in TO1, TO2, CL3, LW4, LW5, LW6. German reinforcements: If at the beginning of a turn the English player controls at least one TO zone, then the German player rolls a dice. On a 4-6 result, the two Panzer IV arrive in the German headquarters.

Victory The English player must control two zones of Town and must have inflicted more casualties than he has suffered (difference of the supply cost of each lost unit) at the end of the game. Any other result is a German victory.
